Big Hands/Storylines:
Top Pair Holds “One Time” for David Hicks
David Hicks made it 4,100 to go from middle position. The action folded to the player in the big blind, who called. The two players saw a flop of Q94, and the big blind checked. Hicks continued his aggression with a bet of 7,100. His opponent check-raised enough to put Hicks all in, sending Hicks into the tank. After deliberating, Hicks made the call and turned over KQ for top pair, kick kicker. His opponent revealed 98 for middle pair and a flush draw. “Come on, hold one time,” Hicks pleaded with the dealer as the 3 turn hit the felt. Hicks needed to avoid a spade, a nine, or an eight to win the pot and stay alive. The 3 on the river complied with Hicks’ request, and he successfully doubled up.
Full House No Good Against Ari Shaffir
Ari Shaffir got it all in with his opponent while holding AQ. His opponent turned over JJ, and it was a classic race confrontation. Shaffir spiked two aces on the flop giving him three-of-a-kind and crushing the jacks. There was a brief moment of gasps as a jack hit the river, giving his opponent a full house, jacks full of aces. However, once the players realized that the entire final board read AAJ88, it was discovered that the paired eights gave Shaffir a bigger full house, aces full of eights. Shaffir successfully doubled up and remained alive throughout the level.
Marco Johnson Continues to Steamroll
Level 12 saw many all in coin flip confrontations, and for the most part the unpaired overcards seemed to be winning the majority of the races. Marco Johnson was one of the lucky race winners when his A10 got it all in against his short stacked opponent’s 22. The flop came AJ8, and Johnson’s opponent failed to catch a deuce on the turn or river.
Players on Break
Players went on a 20 minute break at the completion of level 12.
