Day 2 has come to a close here in Monte Carlo and the remaining field of 129 players have bagged up their chiips before heading into the Mediterranean night. Official chips counts and a recap of the day's events will be posted a little later this evevning. Oyvind Riisem has ended the day with the chip lead, and he has over 400,000 to lead the field into day 3, which begins at 1 p.m. CET tomorrow. Riisem is no stranger to deep tournament runs in Europe - he finished fourth in the main event at the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe.

On a board of Q 8 3, Glenn Chorny makes a large bet, and Oyvind Riisem pushes almost all in, Chorny raises him the rest of the way all in, and Riisem calls. Chorny shows K Q for top pair, while Riisem flips up A 7 for a flush draw. The turn is the 8 and the river the 2, and Riisem is eliminated in 14th place, earning $87,277. Riisem had 824,000 before the hand, so, added to Chorny's already large 1,352,000 stack, Chorny now has a dominating 2.2 million in chips.

The flop comes Q Q J, giving Habib a gutshot-straight draw and still two live cards. The turn is the K, taking away a 10 as an our for Habib, since that would give Riisem the Broadway straight. The river puts the 5 on the board, sealing Habib's fate and sending him out the door in 19th place ($73,205).

Eric Liu Doubles Up

Eric Liu gets all in preflop versus Oyvind Riisem. Riisem turns over pocket sevens, and Liu is in a fortuitous coin-flip with 10-9. The flop comes Q J 10, putting Liu in the lead and in prime position to double up. The turn and river brick out, and Liu win the pot to put him at 257,000.

Riisem Rising -- Takes Down Two Huge Pots

On a board of 9 8 2 8 6, Walid Habib makes a 90,000 bet to make the pot 285,000. Oyvind Riisem thinks for a long while before calling with A-10 for ace high. Habib mucks before even seeing Riisem's hand, and Riisem takes down the huge pot.
Shortly thereafter, on a board of K-10-2-3-8, Riisem makes a huge 210,000 bet, and Eric Liu makes what looks like a crying call. Riisem shows A-10, and Liu mucks, taking a huge hit to his stack. Liu now sits with 142,000, while Riisem has 995,000.
