Day 1B -- Level 2Jul 08, '11 NOTE: Levels are two hours in length and players are starting with 30,000 in chips. Registration will remain open until the end of the second level. Players on Day 1B: Unknown Blinds: 100-200 Notables Remaining:
Notables Eliminated This Level:
Hands: Eric Froehlich Exits The Tournament Arena It took a good call and an ill-timed bluff, but Eric Froehlich is now on the rail after moving all in for his last 11,000 on a board reading 10 9 2 K Q with pocket sevens. His opponent came up with a call, showing pocket aces and took the pot to bust Froehlich. Mizrachi Storms Back With Turned Two Outer The featured table hasn’t been kind to Michael Mizrachi, but some of that bad luck turned around thanks to a recent double up. Mizrachi was all in preflop holding J J against the A K of Derek Bailey. The flop came A Q 6 and left Mizrachi looking for one of the two remaining jacks. Lucky for him, the J hit the turn and 3 hit the river, giving him the winning set and a new stack of 23,000 in chips. Rep Porter Runs Into A Cooler On a flop of J-J-7, 2011 WSOP bracelet winner Rep Porter was all in holding A-J, only to see his opponent turn over pocket sevens for the flopped boat. The turn and river failed to fill up Porter and he was sent packing. He’ll have to take comfort in another solid summer performance to ease the sting of busting so early in the main event. Corwin Cole Loses Race With Dead Money In The Pot Corwin Cole raised to 525 from under the gun and was called two spots to his left by a player in middle position. The small blind then went all in for his last 2,425 and Cole took some time before raising to 5,725 to isolate the all in player. The caller folded and Cole opened up A 8. He was pleased to see his opponent show pocket sixes for a race situation, but when the board rolled out K 9 2 7 Q, Cole was forced to ship over some of his chips. Fortunately for him, he still has slightly over his starting stack in front of him. Ashton Griffin Sent To The Rail Ashton Griffin was all in on a board of J-6-3-A holding A-J for top two pair, but he didn’t have enough chips to protect his hand, getting a call from a player holding K-Q. The river was a 10, completing the four-outer and sending Griffin home. According to his twitter account, Griffin failed to cash in any of the 25 events he played this summer. Round Three: Hour Two – Mortensen and Griffin Out while Duthie and Dwan AdvanceJun 01, '11 NOTE: Three blind levels will be played each hour, as each is just 20 minutes long. The only difference in round 3 is that the blinds begin at 600-1,200. NOTE: Day 2 Will Continue Until the Conclusion of the Sweet 16 Round, which will begin at 8 p.m. this evening. The field decided to take a 15-minute break at the end of hour two so the hour three update will come in at 6:15. Players Remaining: 30 out of 128 Starting Stacks: 300,000 broken up into three chances — meaning that the players started with 100,000 and had 200,000 additional on the side that they could add on at anytime before a hand. If their additional chips were not in play when a hand begins, those chips couldn’t be used to wager with. Ongoing Matches: David Benyamine vs. Anthony Guetti Daniel Alaei vs. Gus Hansen Eric Froehlich vs. Steve Zolotow Yevgeniy Timshenko vs. Amritraj Singh Eliminations: Carlos Mortensen Key Hands: Carlos Mortensen Falls Against John Duthie Carlos Mortensen was knocked down to 100,000 when he moved all in with Q J and John Duthie made the call with K 5. The board ran out K J 7 5 3 and Mortensen was down to his final reload chip. A few hands later it was all over for Mortensen. Mortensen was all in again, this time with pocket deuces and Duthie had him covered with pocket queens. The board stayed out of things, running off J J 10 9 6 and Duthie became the first player to advance to the sweet 16 and make the money. He ensured a cash worth at least $67,436. Tom Dwan Advances Ashton Griffin got the last of his chips into the middle against Tom Dwan and when they flipped over their cards “Durrrr†was way out in front with pocket aces over his opponents pocket fives. The aces held and Dwan was the second player to advance to the sweet 16. Maxim Lykov Close to the Ropes Maxim Lykov faced another decision against Matt Marafioti with the board reading K K 6 2 A and 50,000 raised out on the table after Lykov opened the action for 16,000. Lykov decided to call and then he mucked his cards when Marafioti flipped over two black aces. Lykov was down to less than 100,000 after the hand with no reload chips. Level 14 Update: Tim Begley Storms Up Leader BoardFeb 28, '10 Blinds: 1,000-2,000 with a 300 ante Players Remaining: 86 out of 745 Chip Counts: 1. Mark Newhouse — 510,000 Average Chip Count: 173,255 Notable Eliminations: Kataneh Hamidi Big Hands: Tim Begley Busts Kataneh Hamidi In Monster Pot In a hand that took up the entire duration of the break, Tim Begley busted Kataneh Hamidi to take the chip lead. The board read 8 5 5 10 7 and Begley put Hamidi all in. Hamidi tanked for the last few minutes of the level and then the entire 15 minutes of the break before she announced call. Begley showed pocket eights for the flopped full house and Hamidi exited the tournament room. Shawn Buchanan, who tank folded earlier in the hand, let the table know that he folded pocket queens. He suspected that Hamidi held jacks, or possibly even queens herself, but ruled out kings and aces based on her line. After the hand, Begley was chip leader with over 600,000. By the end of the level, he had dropped down to just over 500,000. Tim West Eliminated Tim West was all in holding pocket jacks against his opponent’s As Qh. The board fell A 6 5 6 7 and West was eliminated from the tournament. Jonathan Aguiar Busts Jonathan Aguiar moved all in from the button and was called by the small blind who held pocket jacks. Aguiar was in terrible shape with J 7 and didn’t get any help as the board rolled out 9 4 2 3 K. Prahlad Friedman Gets a Double Up Prahlad Friedman was all in holding Ah Kc against an opponent’s pocket tens. The board fell J 9 8 K J and Friedman doubled up to over 100,000 in chips. Miami John Cernuto Gets Lucky, Then Unlucky John Cernuto was all in holding A-9 against an opponent’s pocket tens. Cernuto was thrilled to hit the ace on the flop, but his mood immediately turned sour when the 10 hit the turn, ending his run here at Commerce. High Roller Report: The field size for the $25,000 High Roller Championship has increased to 31 players. Among them is recent venetian High Roller Champion Ashton “theASHMAN103” Griffin. Not surprisingly, Griffin is now the chip leader in this event as well, after bluffing Justin “BoostedJ” Smith in a large pot.
