Big Hands and Storylines:
MacPhee Out 8th
Kevin MacPhee and Nathan Templeton got all-in pre-flop. MacPhee held 88 but was a 4-to-1 underdog against Templeton’s QQ. The A74 flop left MacPhee with only a single out, the 8 of hearts. Neither the turn nor river made MacPhee his miracle set, however, and he was crippled, left with only 50,000 chips. He would be eliminated shortly after by, who else, Nathan Templeton.
Zand Blasted: Out on the Final Table Bubble
Nathan Templeton raised to 28,000 from the cutoff, Dave Zand called on the button, Devon Porter also called from the small blind, and John Conkright came along from the big blind. The table saw the first four-handed flop of the evening: JTT. Those sweating from the rail sensed action, and turned out to be quite perceptive. Conkright wasted no time in leading out with a bet of 100,000. Templeton quickly folded, but Zand was not so fast to act. Sliding out three stacks of orange chips, he declared a raise to 300,000. Porter resignedly mucked his hand (later confessing to folding A-J) and Conkright moved all-in. Zand called, and the two showed their hands:
Conkright: KT
Zand: 98
Conkright flopped trip tens but was only a slight favorite against Zand’s open-ended straight flush draw. The turn delivered the J, making the river sweat much more tolerable for Conkright. When the last card came 7. He raked in a massive pot, taking him over 1 million for the night.
Zand was left with one stack of yellow chips totaling 30,000. He was eliminated shortly after when his QT was felled by Devon Porter’s AT on a board of 48442.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Ta-Ta to Tatalovich
Richard Tatalovich moved all-in from the button with AQ and Dave Zand quickly followed suit, moving all-in from the small blind. The big blind folded and Tatalovich saw the bad news when Zand, seemingly apologetically, showed his AA to the man on his right. The board – 87525 – did nothing for Tatalovich and he was eliminated, taking home $19,570 for his 12th place finish. Zand is now top of the heap with 630,000 chips in front of him.
Shilyuk Doubles Through Devon Porter
The shortest stack remaining in the tournament, Anatoly Shilyuk, moved all-in for 85,000 from one off the button. Action folded around to Devin Porter who insta-called and tabled QQ. Shilyuk’s AT was trailing until the flop came AT3 and put him in the lead. The turn was the 6, which gave Porter outs for a chopped pot, but the river was a teasing 3, doubling Shilyuk up to 190,000.
Von Halle Hits the Rail
Shilyuk raised to 22,000 from the button. In the small blind, Jon Van Halle looked at his cards and immediately slid his stack – 160,000 – toward the middle of the table. Devon Porter in the big blind thought for a good long while before moving all-in himself. Shilyuk folded and the two revealed their cards:
Van Halle: QJ
Porter: AQ
The dealer peeled off 55298 and Jan Von Halle was eliminated, perhaps taking solace knowing that he’ll be leaving tonight with Katja Thater.
