Only Jesus...
Most of the buzz around the room has been about Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. He came into the day as the tournament's short stack with just 3,300.
So what had Mike "the Mouth" Matusow yelling (or just normal talk for Matusow?) that Ferguson would be chip leader before long? Ferguson chipped all the way up to 25,000 in the first half of the level.
"How much is an autograph going for?" Matusow joked with Ferguson. "I'll give you mine for free if you give me yours for 50."
Negreanu Bid Farewell
Daniel Negreanu chopped a pot with Jennifer Harman when the board ran K-7-2-A-4 and Negreanu showed A-J-10-7 for the best two pair, and Harman showed A-9-6-4 for the 7-low.
One hand later Negreanu was all in and his chances weren't as good, up against Hasan Habib, Men "The Master" Nguyen and Jennifer Harman. The flop came 1087 and Habib checked to Nyguen, who bet 1,500. Harman and Habib called and the turn brought the 6. All players put in another 3,000 to see the river J. Habib put his remaining 800 in and Nguyen put out a bet of 3,000 that was called by Harman.
Nguyen showed 3242 for a flush and Habib showed A255 for the low. Harman mucked and Negreanu was eliminated.
Goodwin Takes The Enitre Pot
Marc Goodwin called James DiGiorgio's bets on every street on a board of K-8-7-Q-Q and flipped over A-A-Q-2. DiGiorgio showed a king and mucked, and Goodwin climbed toward 20,000.
The Matadore Double
Carlos Mortensen started the day with 7,400 in chips but recently doubled to around 18,000 when he got all in preflop and the board came 982QQ. Mortenson showed A-8-7-3, which was good enough to take the pot.
A Jesus-Like Tale
Tom Schneider has also had a Jesus-like resurrection, starting the day with just 4,400 and climbing up to around 25,000. However, Schneider just took a hit when he called an opponent all the way then raised on the river. As soon as his opponent called Schneider said, "You got it. I missed everything," and mucked. His opponent showed 109 for a full house. Schneider fell to around 20,000.
A Pretty Big Hand
Brad Booth bet out on a board of 5229 and Jeff Madsen let his hand go. Booth then said, "A pretty big hand..." and showed A-2-3-K for a set of deuces and the nut low draw.
Fashionably Late
David Benyamine just sat down at Mike Matusow's table halfway through the level. Matusow, who has been singing and chatting away, said he wasn't sure if Benyamine was going to show up today.
