Minh Ly is one of the most highly regarded cash game players in the game and has millions in tournament winnings. However, the road to the top has not been an easy one for Ly. He was born in Vietnam and moved to Las Vegas in 1986. He worked as a poker dealer and cook at a Chinese restaurant. Life was tough trying to pay the bills by working two jobs.
Somehow, Ly also found time to grind out some money to supplement his income in low-limit cash games. He eventually upped his limits as he steadily improved and adapted. Soon, he was playing side-by-side with poker legends like Doyle Brunson in "The Big Game." After taking advice from Brunson, Ly began playing tournaments and had immediate success.
Ly has cashed in numerous World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker events. He finished second to Doyle Brunson in a $5,000 shorthanded no-limit event in the 2005 WSOP, but won a World Poker Tour title later that year at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship.
Ly is married and continues to follow the poker circuit and play in the biggest cash games in the world.
