Analysis

Chip leader Matthew Beinner found a friendly flop and a helpful turn to help him successfully semi-bluff his opponent, Florian Ribouchon, off of pocket jacks with J-10 suited in this clash. That being said, Beinner’s decision to three-bet preflop and back that aggression up in a major way certainly helped force Ribouchon out of the hand. Ribouchon was the first to act preflop from the hijack. He looked over at Tice, who was extremely short-stacked and had about half of his chips committed in the big blind, and min-raised with pocket jacks. Beinner might have suspected that Ribouchon was looking to use his first-mover advantage to attack Tice’s blind. Beinner three-bet to 3x Ribouchon’s initial raise and Ribouchon made the call with the big pocket pair. The flop brought two spades to give Beinner a flush draw. With one overcard to his jacks, Ribouchon checked from out of position and Beinner fired a continuation bet of roughly one-third pot. Ribouchon was not yet ready to bow out, though. He made the call, only to see yet another overcard roll off the deck. The king on the turn gave Beinner an open-ended straight draw in addition to his flush outs, and a golden opportunity to keep firing. Ribouchon checked a second time and Beinner opted to move all-in, an effective shove of 7.6 million into a pot of just over 6 million. Ribouchon only took a moment before electing to fold, sending the sizable pot over the Beinner to add to his lead.
