Updates on Final Day (Jul 26, 06)

Pat Poels Wins 7 Card Stud High-Low ($172,091)

Short stacked and showing 9spade7spade10heart5club, Greg Dinkin decides to get it all-in before the river card is dealt.  Patrick Poels, showing JheartQheartKspadeQspade, makes the call.  After the river card is dealt, Poels shows a high hand of Q-Q and no low.  Dinkin then shows a nine in the hole and the river card fails to improve him.  Greg Dinkin is eliminated in second  place earning $102,542 and Patrick Poels gets the win, $172,091, and his second WSOP bracelet.

Poels Takes Down Big One

After not getting past fourth street in some time, the players finally have a show down.  Dinkin , who was the bettor during the early streets is showing 8diamond3spade8spade3club while Poels, who became the bettor on the later streets, is showing AheartKclub2spade5heart.  Poels fires at the pot one more time on the river and Dinkin calls.  Poels shows K-K-K and Dinkin mucks.  Poels now sits with $1,000,000 to Dinkin's $190,000.

At It Again

Play has resumed between Patrick Poels and Greg Dinkin in Stud 8.

Break

The two remaining players, Patrick Poels and Greg Dinkin, are currently on a 15 minute break.

Players Treading Water

Little action has developed thus far heads up.  Play has rarely moved past fourth street.

Madsen Eliminated

Short stacked, Jeff Madsen gets it all-in against Patrick Poules on fourth street.  When the cards are all finally dealt, Madsen's two nines are beaten by Poules' A-A.  Neither player shows a low.  That makes two firsts and two thirds so far for Jeff Madsen at the 2006 WSOP.

They Play On

Play has resumed in the Stud 8 event.

Break

The players are currently on a 15 minute break.  Three players remain including two time bracelet winner Jeff Madsen.

Poels Takes Pot Off Madsen

Patrick Poels, who has bet every street, is showing Adiamond5diamond5heartKheart.  Jeff Madsen, who has been calling, is showing Jclub3diamondQspade10heart.  Poels slows down on the river and checks.  Madsen does the same and shows J-J, no low.  Poels shows 5-5-3-3 for the pot.  Poels now sits at $730,000 to Madsen's $195,000.

Slow

Play has become extremely slow.  The players have failed to build a pot in some time.  The joke at the table is that this event will out last the Main Event.
