Per Linde maintains lead ahead of EPT Copenhagen final

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

It has been another day for Swedish rejoicing at the EPT Copenhagen as three players from the other side of the bridge made it through to the final table of the main event, led from the start by the untouchable Per Linde, who bags up 4,980,000 tonight.

Linde’s lead is some three million ahead of PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacafano in second place, who closed on 1,844,000. Day 4 took little more than seven levels of play to complete, a period that would have been shorter had man hours not been needed to shift Linde’s stack between tables. He returns tomorrow the clear favourite to lift EPT silverware.

Chip leader, Per Linde

Linde, who had a deep run at EPT San Remo last year and who followed that with a third place at WPT Paris, was faced with no easy task, up against a talented field that included Michael Tureniec, Juha Helppi, John Eames and Kevin Iacofano; each top grade players who will make tomorrow’s final one of the best, and most fiercely contested, in some time.

Between them they saw off the opposition. They included the likes of Team PokerStars Pro Florian Langmann and Jan Sorensen (the former well chipped at the start), two players certainly expected to advance. They fell in 19th and 18th place respectively.

Reduced to two tables Ivan Freitez, from Venezuela, followed in 16th, joined a short while later by Lars Krogh, Simen Johannessen and Simon Hanninger. The departure of Joel Nordkvist in ninth place wrapped up the day’s play. Here’s how the final table will line up:

Seat 1 – Andrea Dalle Molle, Italy, 417,000

Seat 2 – Per Linde, Sweden, 4,980,000

Seat 3 – Nikolas Liakos, Sweden, 1,493,000

Seat 4 – Mudassar Khan, Denmark, 823,000

Seat 5 – Kevin Iacofano, USA, PokerStars qualifier, 1,844,000

Seat 6 – John Eames, UK, 1,060,000

Seat 7 – Michael Tureniec, Sweden, 1,310,000

Seat 8 – Juha Helppi, Finland, 1,470,000

They return tomorrow at noon when they will play until just one man remains. That player will lift an EPT trophy and earn a first prize of DKK 3,700,000 (€496,271). Copenhagen has a habit of putting together some curiosities, especially on the final day. Join us tomorrow to see how things turn out.

EPT Copenhagen: Day 4, level 22, 23 & 24 updates (blinds 15,000-30,000, 3,000 ante)

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

7.34pm: Eames knocks out Nordkvist in 9th (€29,508)

Joel Nordkvist has just been knocked out to end play for the day and set the Season 7 EPT Copenhagen final table. The Swedish cash game specialist shoved for 344,000 from the small blind into John Eames on the big blind, who tank-called with KDiamond Suit9Spade Suit. The board consolidated Eames’ hand with a QSpade SuitKClub Suit4Club Suit flop and although the ASpade Suit turn gave a potential gutshot to the ten, Nordkvist couldn’t find the suckout on the JClub Suit river.

All eight remaining players are guaranteed €39,755 but will be gunning for the €496,271 first prize payout. Full wrap and chip counts to come. — RD

7.29pm: Khan all-in pushes Linde back

Mudassar Khan just moved all-in for 700,000 from the big blind over a Per Linde button raise of 65,000. Linde the man to beat right now. — RD

7.28pm: Linde applying pressure

Per Linde is over the five million chip mark for the first time. He utilized his chip leading stack to great effect by three-betting PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano. The American made it 65,000 to go from early position but folded when Linde made it 180,000 from the small blind. — MC

7.25pm: First to Iacofano

Kevin Iacofano has taken down the first pot of level 24. Nikolas Liakos had opened for 65,000 and was called by Iacofano. Liakos check-folded to a 70,000 bet on the 2Diamond Suit3Diamond Suit9Diamond Suit flop. — RD

7.20pm: Play restarts

We go on into Level 24 with blinds of 15,000-30,000 with a 3,000 ante.

7.05pm: End of the level

That’s the end of level 23. Players are on a 15 minute break.

7.04pm: Juha Helppi himself to a double-up

Juha Helppi is up to 1,870,000 after doubling up through Joel Nordkvist. All the chips went in pre-flop with Helppi holding JSpade SuitJDiamond Suit to Nordkvist’s ADiamond Suit2Heart Suit. The board ran 5Heart Suit9Heart Suit3Diamond Suit9Diamond Suit2Heart Suit to send the pot Finland’s way. Sweden’s Nordkvist is now the short stack with 449.000 chips. — MC

7pm: Four-bet

Per Linde has a terrifying lead with almost 5 million chips and it’s easy to see why. Linde opened for 52,000 from the hijack and was three-bet by Kevin Iacofano – who is currently second in chips – for 125,000. Linde came back over the top for 275,000 and Iacofano passed. — RD

6.53pm: Turn bet good for Liakos

Nikolas Liakos manoeuvred Juha Helppi off a hand after the Finn played it passively post flop. The Finn raised to 55,000 from the cut-off and Liakos defended from the big blind to see the JHeart Suit6Heart Suit9Spade Suit flop. Both players checked to the 7Diamond Suit turn where a Liakos lead for 80,000 took the pot down. — MC

nikolas_liakos_ept7cop_d4.jpg

Nikolas Liakos

6.48pm: Helppi’s image holds true

Juha Helppi has got a tight image which he’s using to good effect after calling a raise from Kevin Iacofano on the button. He fired a 52,000 bet at the JSpade Suit7Spade Suit5Club Suit flop. It took the pot. — RD

6.38pm: Liakos emptied the clip into Iacofano’s bullet proof vest

Nikolas Liakos just emptied the clip on PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano but the American picked him off to claim the pot. Liakos raised pre-flop, bet 95,000 on the flop, 105,000 on the turn and 190,000 on the river. The final board read 2Diamond Suit5Club Suit5Spade Suit10Spade SuitJClub Suit and Iacofano called all the way with 7Heart Suit7Diamond Suit. It was good as Liakos only had 7Spade Suit8Spade Suit. — MC

6.28pm: Nordkvist still angry

Joel Nordkvist may not look angry from the outside but there must be something giving him fire in the belly. He keeps three-betting, this time it was Kevin Iacofano who was attacked. The American passed. — RD

6.24pm: Linde taken on

Joel Nordkvist has been involved in a lot of hands today and that has resulted in a very swingy day. He’s not afraid to mix it and that was just proved when he took on chip monster Per Linde. Linde raised from early position and was called Nikolas Liakos and Nordkvist on the way to a KDiamond Suit8Club Suit3Spade Suit flop. Linde c-bet for 80,000 and was only called by Nordkvist to go to the 6Heart Suit turn. Linde had seen enough and check-folded to 120,000 bet. Nordkvist is up to 1,270,000 chips now. — MC

6.20pm: Eames passes to Dalle Molle

John Eames opened under-the-gun and was called by Andrea Dalle Molle. Eames check-folded to a shove on the QHeart SuitKSpade Suit5Heart Suit flop. Dalle Molle still fairly short. — RD

6.15pm: A flop!

The first flop since play restarted. The action folded around to chip leader Per Linde on the button and he made it 52,000 to go. Mudassar Khan is a player that seems to like defending his big blind and he did just that. The flop came a dry looking KDiamond Suit4Club Suit8Heart Suit and Khan check-folded to Linde’s 50,000 c-bet. — MC

6.05pm: Raise and take

The first few hands of nine-handed play have taken place with no flops being seen. Every raise has got through with the blinds and antes being stolen. Juha Helppi and Andrea Dalle Molle are teh players at most risk. — MC

5.55pm: Seat draw for the final nine

We’re back into the action and the final nine are as follows:

1. Andrea Dalle Molle, Italy, 441,000

2. Per Linde, Sweden, 4,688,000

3. Nikolas Liakos, Sweden, 1,848,000

4. Mudassar Khan, Denmark, 990,000

5. Kevin Iacofano, USA, PokerStars qualifier, 1,433,000

6. Joel Nordkvist, Sweden, 1,048,000

7. John Eames, UK, 964,000

8. Michael Tureniec, Sweden, 1,471,000

9. Juha Helppi, Finland, 655,000

5.42pm: Still sorting out the table

Stacks are still getting sorted. Clock paused. — RD

5.34pm: Hanninger out in 10th (€29,508)

Simon Hanninger was down to little more than fumes with 185,000 when he moved all-in from the button. The small blind, Joel Nordkvist, isolated the action by shoving for around 700,000.

Nordkvist: ADiamond SuitKDiamond Suit

Hanninger: ASpade Suit6Club Suit

The paired board didn’t help Hanninger and he’s out in 10th. Final nine players getting seated at the feature table. — RD

5.22pm: Jens Lauridsen out in 11th place

Jens Lauridsen is out after moving all-in with pocket sixes only to be called by Nikolas Liakos who held aces.

The board came QClub Suit5Diamond Suit10Diamond Suit8Spade Suit9Spade Suit to send Lauridsen to the rail in 11th place. We’re down to ten players. — SB

5.19pm: Linde smashing this tournament up

Per Linde yesterday said that he had been running like God. That doesn’t seem to have stopped today. He’s just raked in a large 980,000 pot against Michael Tureniec after turning a nine-high straight on a 7Club Suit5Spade Suit8Spade Suit6Club Suit5Heart Suit board. Tureniec had called down 125,000 on the flop and 275,000 on the turn. — RD

5.14pm: Liakos doubles up

After a rare move by Andrea Dalle Molle went uncontested, Nikolas Liakos and Kevin Iocafano tangled in yet another pot.

Liakos opened for 50,000 which Iocafano raised to 130,000 before Liakos moved all-in. His shove was called immediately; 8Heart Suit8Spade Suit for Liakos, 7Heart Suit7Spade Suit for Iocafano.

The board ran 10Club SuitAHeart Suit2Heart Suit10Heart SuitQHeart Suit to double up Liakos to 1,300,000. Iacafano slips down to 1,400,000. – SB

5.06pm: Back into the action

The players are back into it. — RD

4.52pm: Break time

That’s it for 15-minutes. We’re going short-handed here on the blog because Marc Convey has jumped ship to guest on the webcast. Be gentle with him, he’s not all there. — RD

4.52pm: To close the level

In the last hand of the level on the outer table Kevin Iacofano opened for 46,000 in early position and Mudassar Khan called from the big blind.

Off to the flop of 7Spade Suit6Spade Suit7Heart Suit. A bet of 55,000 was check-called by Khan for a 10Spade Suit turn. Khan checked that as Iacofano bet another 140,000. Again Khan called for a 3Club Suit river and then checked. Iacofano bet four towers of chips, amounting to 428,000, putting Khan to the test. Khan wasnted to know though and called, mucking as soon as Iacofano showed 6Heart Suit6Club Suit. Iacofano is up past 2 million. – SB

4.50pm: Linde shows down another monster, up to 4.3 million

Per Linde is streaking ahead here with a huge 4.3 million stack. Linde opened under-the-gun for 45,000 and was called by Joel Nordkvist. There was a bet and call on the 2Heart Suit8Club Suit5Heart Suit flop and Linde fired a further 150,000 into the QSpade Suit turn. Nordkvist made the call. On the 7Heart Suit river Lind led out for a final 350,000, which Nordkvist tank-called. Linde turned over QDiamond SuitQClub Suit for top set. — RD

4.45pm: Johannessen out in 12th place for DKK 165,000 (€22,131)

Simen Johannessen has failed to spin up his short stack after being eliminated by Nikolas Liakos. He pushed from under-the-gun with ADiamond Suit9Heart Suit and was called by Liakos holding KHeart SuitKDiamond Suit. Johannessen doubled-up with this hand earlier but found no such luck this time on the 9Club SuitKClub Suit5Spade SuitJClub Suit10Diamond Suit board. — MC

4.40pm: The Wrath of Khan: Part II

After Jens Lauridsen completed the small blind Mudassar Khan raised to 65,000 which Lauridsen then called. The flop came 8Club Suit2Diamond Suit8Diamond Suit which Lauridsen checked to Khan who bet 70,000. Lauridsen called for a 10Spade Suit turn. Lauridsen made it 120,000 this time which Khan called without fuss for a ADiamond Suit on the river. Lauridsen bet another 214,000.

Khan stretched his neck, one side then the next, like a man about to give another man a good one-sided pummelling. When he called Lauridsen tossed in a losing JHeart Suit7Diamond Suit

Khan clapped his hands above his head once, but everyone heard, then he turned over ASpade SuitJClub Suit with an elaborate flick of his hands, really quite proud of himself as he moved up to 1,150,000. Lauridsen slips to 440,000. – SB

4.32pm: Jensen falls to Iacofano’s one-two

Johnny Jensen is our 13th place finisher after losing some and then the rest of his chips to PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano. The first hand saw Jensen raise and then four-bet fold to Iacofano’s shove.

The next hand Jensen raised to 49,000 and Iacofano called from the button to go to a 3Spade SuitQHeart Suit4Club Suit flop. Jensen c-bet for 70,000 and then moved all-in when Iacofano raised to 170,000. Iacofano snap called to create a showdown.

Jensen: ADiamond SuitQSpade Suit

Iacofano: QDiamond Suit9Diamond Suit

Jensen was in great shape to double-up but the turn came a cruel 9Club Suit to see the American snatch the lead with two-pair. The river came JHeart Suit and a very disappointed Jensen trundled off. Iacofano now up with the big boys on 1,900,000. — MC

4.25pm: More for Linde

Per Linde is throwing his weight around on the feature table. He opened for 45,000 and was called by Juha Helppi, big blind, and Joel Nordkvist, small blind. Nordkvist led for 75,000 into the 9Heart Suit7Club Suit5Heart Suit flop and was called by Linde alone. Nordkvist check-called 225,000 on the 3Heart Suit turn but he couldn’t bring himself to call the 2Spade Suit river. Linde had pushed out a large 455,000 bet. Linde up to 3.6 million. — RD

ept copenhagen_day 4_per linde.jpg

Per Linde, piling on the pressure

4.20pm: The Wrath of Khan

Nikolas Liakos and Mudassar Khan just tangled again, this time Khan coming out best.

Khan opened for 45,000 from the button which Liakos called on the small blind for a flop of 4Diamond Suit6Spade Suit7Heart Suit. Liakos checked to Khan who bet 51,000, which Liakos raised to 125,000. Eventually Khan called for a 10Heart Suit turn card. Another check from Liakos before Khan announced he was all-in. Liakos folded. Khan up to 760,000. – SB

4.15pm: Giving up on the turn

Mudassar Khan resisted, for a while, in hand against Nikolas Liakos but gave up at the turn stage. Liakos raised to 42,000 from under-the-gun and Khan defended his big blind. The flop came down 6Diamond SuitAHeart SuitJSpade Suit and Khan check-called a 42,000 bet. The turn came 8Spade Suit and Khan checked to face a 115,000 bet. He passed. — MC

4.05pm: Lars Krogh out in 14th

Lars Krogh has just busted in a nasty cooler that has pushed Per Linde way ahead in the chip race with 3,243,000. Linde opened under-the-gun for 45,000 and Krogh three-bet to 125,000. The action folded back around to Linde who set Krogh’s 485,000 stack all-in and he called.

Linde: ASpade SuitAClub Suit

Krogh: AHeart SuitKClub Suit

Krogh was not in good shape and failed to hit that 6 per cent suckout on the JSpade Suit5Heart Suit7Spade SuitADiamond Suit6Diamond Suit board. — RD

4pm: Big move by Iacofano

Kevin Iacofano just raked in a huge pot, causing huge pain to Nikolas Liakos. Iacofano had opened for 45,000 under-the-gun and was called by Mudassar Khan in the small blind and Liakos in the big blind.

All three players checked the KHeart Suit3Heart Suit4Club Suit flop. Khan led the QHeart Suit turn for 79,000 and both players called. Khan no longer seemed interested in the pot come the 10Spade Suit river card and he checked. Liakos pushed out 120,000 and Iacofano moved all-in for 404,000. Khan thought for a short while and then passed.

Liakos however, went into the longest tank I’ve seen this tournament. He leant forward, he learnt back. He played with his chips and the picked at his beard. None of it seemed to help him make up his mind. Perhaps he suspected his opponent was using the AHeart Suit as some kind of blocker to shove. The Swede had 630,000 back and would have to use a fair chunk of that to call off the 284,000. After grumbling about hating or loving himself for his whole life he passed his hand.

Iacofano said he could look at one card. The dealer flipped the one closest to the American. It was the 8Spade Suit. The American is up to 910,000. — RD

3.45pm: Nothing to see here

A gentle start to the new level. Joel Nordkvist took a pot against Tureniec while other pots were raise and takes. — SB

3.35pm: Cards in the air

Play re-starts in Level 22 with blinds at 10,000-20,000 with a 2,000 ante. Just 14 players remain. — SB

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

3.19pm: That’s the end of the level

Players are now on a 15 minute break.

3.18pm: The difference a table makes

At this stage in a tournament you often find some players gunning to building a big stack while other are trying to hold on for the high profile final table. At the moment it seems the feature table has taken almost all the players from the aggro school and sent the others to the outer table. There have been a lot of flops checked and, perhaps with the exclusion of Nikolas Liakos, there hasn’t been too much pre-flop aggression in terms of three- and four-bets. Pot control seems to be the order of the day for the secondary table. — RD

3.17pm: Push and shove in the blinds

An intriguing short-lived duel takes place in the blinds between John Eames in the small blind and Michael Tureniex in the big. Eames bet 43,000 before Tureniec three-bet to 104,000. Eames then four-bet to 204,000 before Tureniec moved all-in. Eames was forced to pass. — SB

3.12pm: An ace is good one hand but not the next, for Jensen

Johnny Jensen was involved in two hands in a row, both times with an ace, but he played them very differently and the hands had two very different outcomes for him.

The first hand featured him three-betting a Jens Lauridsen opening raise to take the pot down. Lauridsen folded and was shown an ace by Jensen.

The very next hand Lauridsen opened again, to 36,000, and this time Jensen called. Mudassar Khan was in the next seat and he three-bet to 127,000. This prompted Lauridsen to fold and also Jensen, who open folded AClub SuitKClub Suit. This caused a level of surprise amongst his table mates. — MC

3.08pm: Pot to Hanninger

On a flop of 9Club Suit4Diamond Suit2Club Suit Simon Hanninger checked from the small blind and Michael Tureniec did the same for a 4Spade Suit turn. Hanninger then bet 50,000 which Tureniec called for a 6Spade Suit river card. With 200,000 in the middle Hanninger bet 150,000, good to take the pot. – SB

3.05pm: Liakos shows he’s got moves

Nikolas Liakos opened the button for 32,000, a min-raise, and Andrea Dalla Molle three-bet to 87,000 from the big blind. Liakos came back over the top for 138,000 and Dalla Molle passed.

“Don’t you try,” said Liakos tossing down JHeart Suit5Club Suit for a huge bluff.

How will Dalla Molle react to that? — RD

3pm: Eames all-in to take pot

Joel Nordkvist opened form middle position for 32,000 which John Eames three-bet to 86,000. Nordkvist called for a flop of 6Club Suit3Spade SuitASpade Suit. Nordkvist check-called a bet of around 90,000 from Eames for a 5Diamond Suit. Nordkvist checked to Eames to then moved all-in to win the hand. — SB

2.55pm: From the TV table

Joel Nordkvist wins a hand against Lars Krogh. With the board reading 7Diamond Suit2Spade Suit10Club SuitQDiamond Suit Korgh checked to Nordkvist who made a pot-winning bet of 140,000 to force out Krogh. — SB

2.50pm: Daniel Johansson gone in 15th place

The first Swedish elimination of the day has happened with the demise of Daniel Johansson.

He open shoved for 160,000 from first position and was only called by Johnny Jensen on the button with QHeart SuitQSpade Suit. Johansson tabled ADiamond Suit3Spade Suit but failed to find one of the three aces needed through the KDiamond Suit9Club SuitJSpade SuitJDiamond Suit2Club Suit board. He smiled and shook everyone’s hand before going off to collect his prize of DKK 105,000 (€14,083). — MC

2.45pm: Liakos bashes Jensen

Nikolas Liakos has just chipped up to 750,000 after tangling with Johnny Jensen on a 3Diamond SuitASpade Suit4Spade SuitQDiamond SuitJDiamond Suit board. Both players had checked the flop, Jensen had led 46,000 into the flop but it was Liakos who bet 131,000 on the river. Jensen passed. — RD

2.35pm: Down to two tables

The feature table is, unsurprisingly, still the one to watch. Not to be too harsh to the previous players but I think it’s fair to say that the quality has taken a step up.

Joining Per Linde, Michael Tureniec and Joel Nordkvist is John Eames and Juha Helppi. This is shaping up to be an incredible final table. Huge chips on this table with some over 150 big blinds deep. — RD

2.25pm: Jacks and Aces, Freitez out in 16th place

In a huge hand Ivan Freitez is sent to the rail in 16th place by Michael Tureniec. Simon Hanninger opened the pot for 35,000 from under-the-gun. Freitez then raised to 135,000 which Tureniec re-raised to 285,000 from the small blind. Hanninger passed but Freitez called for a flop of JDiamond Suit7Spade Suit8Heart Suit.

Tureniec put Frietez all-in and the Venezuelan called, turning over JHeart SuitJClub Suit. Tureniec showed AClub SuitAHeart Suit but was behind. But not for long. The ASpade Suit on the turn swung the advantage back to the Swede and the blank river sent Freitez out. — SB

2.24pm: Rahbek out in 17th (€11,401)

Helge Rahbek is one of our fallers from the outer tables. He got it in with AClub Suit2Club Suit against John Eames’ AHeart Suit10Diamond Suit. The board ran out 8Diamond Suit6Heart Suit5Club Suit6Spade SuitASpade Suit and Eames continues to chip up. He must be up to about 700,000. — RD

2.22pm: Lone ranger doubles

Simen Johannessen is the last Norwegian player in the field, dominated now by neighbouring Denmark and Sweden.

He just got very lucky to more than double-up to the delight of the Norwegians on the rail. Jens Lauridsen raised to 36,000 from under-the-gun and was called by Kevin Iacofano on the button before Johannessen three-bet all-in for 171,000 from the big blind. Lauridsen tank-folded but Iacofano called quickly.

Iacofano: 9Spade Suit9Heart Suit

Johannessen: ADiamond Suit9Club Suit

Johannessen asked for an ace and he duly got it on the AClub SuitQHeart Suit2Diamond Suit6Club Suit4Club Suit board. — MC

2.20pm: Langmann exit explained

I’ve just tapped up our German blogger to get the lowdown on the Florina Langmann bust out. The info recalled is that it didn’t go in pre-flop, it actually ended up with a huge ace-high call by Langmann on the river.

Ivan Freitez had opened the pot and Langmann just called with his AClub SuitQClub Suit knowing that Per Linde would likely squeeze. He did and Freitez passed before Langmann made the call.

Linde bet the [k]53 flop to 155,000 and Langmann min-raised to 310,000. The 6 turn was checked by both players before Linde set Langmann all in on the [j] river. Langmann made the call for around 600,000. He told our German colleague that he did so because he didn’t think that Linde would set him in for value. With a rivered set, it turns out that he would. Brave – but doomed – call from Langmann. — RD

2.18pm: Jan Sorensen out in 18th place

Jan Sorensen is out. Having been reduced to ten big blinds after a recent flip. He moved in with KClub SuitJSpade Suit and was called by Michael Tureniec with 9Heart Suit9Spade Suit.

2.15pm: Eames feeling a little Krogh

British player John Eames is down to about 400,000 chips after PokerStars qualifier Lars Krogh forced him off a hand. Krogh raised to 35,000 from under-the-gun and called when Eames three-bet to 81,000 from the button. The flop came 7Spade SuitKClub Suit2Spade Suit and Krogh checked to face a 93,000 bet from Eames. He quickly bumped this up to 225,000 and took down the pot as Eames tank folded. — MC

2.13pm: Painful pot for Sorensen

Simon Hanninger moved all-in for 260,000 with king-queen and was called by Jan Sorensen with pocket nines. Sorensen was good up to the turn but the river landed a killer queen. Sorensen looked like a switch had been flicked sending a thousand volts through his chair. Hanninger doubles up but Sorensen is reduced to 100,000. – SB

2.10pm: Langmann busts, Linde storms ahead

Florian Langman has just busted courtesy of Per Linde in what I believe was a huge flip. The feature table had become a twilight zone for coverage in the moments before the webcast began. We couldn’t approach the play as Michelle Orpe’s opening volley at the camera had just started firing, but the cameras were yet to turn on the table.

So we had to rely on the information from tournament director Kevin. Per Linde had been the aggressor with pocket jack and Langmann had called AClub SuitQClub Suit. The flop ran out [k]536[j] and Langmann departed in 19th. Linde now has 2.6m. — RD

1.53pm: An all-in on the first hand back

The first hand played on table 31(post break) featured Mudassar Khan all-in. He raised to 36,000 from the cut-off only for Johnny Jensen to come in with a three-bet to 93,000 from the big blind. Jensen and Khan both have stern looking stares and after a period where they stared right into each others eyes Khan moved all-in for around 480,000. This was too much for Jensen to handle and he folded. — MC

1.48pm: Play resumes

The players are back from break and level 21. Blinds are 8,000-16,000, ante 2,000.

1.30pm: Break time

That’s the first break of the day for the 19 remaining players. It’s 15-minutes until we start again. — RD

1.28pm: Langmann and Tureniec clash

Florian Langmann and Michael Tureniec are sat side by side and have clashed in what could be one of many skirmishes going all the way through to the final table. The Team PokerStars Pro opened for 27,000 from middle position and was three-bet to around 70,000. Langmann stared into the side of Tureniec’s head as if he was deciding whether to just land a punch on that exact spot and be done with it. He opted, wisely, to just call instead.

The 2Diamond Suit6Diamond SuitJDiamond Suit flop wasn’t attractive to Langmann who check-folded to the Swede’s 67,000 bet. — RD

1.25pm: McIntyre out, Dalla Molle explodes

I just caught the end of this one, alerted by the scream of the normally reserved Andrea Dalla Molle: “Yes! Come on,” he cried. Alan McIntyre was all-in against the Italian with ASpade SuitJSpade Suit against the QSpade SuitQDiamond Suit of Dalla Molle.

The board had run out 2Heart Suit6Diamond SuitADiamond Suit4Spade Suit leaving just two outs for Dalla Molle to regain the lead. The QHeart Suit hit the river. McIntyre out in 20th. — RD

1.20pm: Iacofano down but not out

PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano hasn’t had the best of days so far. He’s still in so it’s a day that’s recoverable but he just lost a pot to drop to about 200,000 chips from a start point of 685,000.

He raised to 26,000 from late position and called when Jens Lauridsen three-bet to 57,000 from the big blind. The flop came 3Club Suit6Spade SuitQHeart Suit and Lauridsen led for 60,000. Call. The turn came QClub Suit and there was no stopping the Dane who led for 150,000. Iacofano thought about continuing but folded. Lauridsen had about 800,000 after the hand. — MC

1.10pm: Langmann all-in

After Jan Sorensen limped in to the pot from early position, Florian Langmann raised to 40,000 from the cut off. Simon Hanninger was in the big blind and after fiddling with chips for a moment, he raised to 106,000.

“How much?” asked Langmann, to stone cold silence. So he asked again and finally the dealer got the message and counted out the bet. Then Langmann wanted to know what Hanninger had behind. Hanninger was still silent but it amounted to about 300,000. Langman moved all-in. Hanninger called immediately.

But despite the drama it would soon be back to square one as each player turned over ace-king. The board ran an irrelevant 8Spade SuitADiamond Suit9Club Suit3Spade Suit7Spade Suit for a split pot. – SB

1pm: Dalla Molle chipping up

Andrea Dalle Molle has just taken a good chunk out of American PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano. It was Iacofano that started the action, opening to 26,000 from the hijack. Dalle Molle called in the cut-off.

Iacofano c-bet 30,000 at the 6Diamond SuitQClub Suit4Heart Suit flop. Dall Molle called. He tried 71,000 on the 8Spade Suit turn. The Italian called again. The American seemed to give up on the turn, check-folding to a 122,000 bet on the KHeart Suit river. Dalla Molle up to 570,000. Iacofano down to 450,000. — RD

12.55pm: Linde extends lead

Per Linde is up to 1,702,000 in chips after forcing Team PokerStars Pro Florian Langmann off a hand. The two were heads-up to the turn and Langmann checked to face a 225,000 bet. The board read KSpade Suit10Club Suit9Spade SuitQHeart Suit and he gave his decision some thought before folding to drop to 1,050,000 in chips. — MC

12.45pm: Sunar sunk, out in 21st place

Surinder Sunar has been eliminated in 21st taking home DKK 85,000 (€11,401) for his efforts. Shortly after his split pot shove, he got it all in with ace-king and found Andrea Dalle Molle a willing customer with pocket tens. Neither player improved and Sunar headed off to the cash cage. — MC

12.40pm: Mikhail Lakhitovto out in 22nd

A split pot and an elimination, the first involving Surinder Sunar, the latter the departure of Mikhail Lakhitov.

Sunar had moved in for around 140,000 in middle position which was followed by Andrea Dalle Molle doing the same thing from the cut off. As Sunar waited for others to fold he rubbed his cards on Nikolas Liakos and Kevin Iacofano for luck. Liakos even gave him one of his chips to place on his cards, a gesture Sunar appreciated.

Sunar wasn’t about to depart, but he wasn’t about to double up either. Both players turned up ace-king and the board passed by harmlessly.

A few hands later Mikhail Lakhitov moved all-in and was called by Liakos. Lakhitov showed QClub Suit6Spade Suit to Liakos’s AClub Suit9Heart Suit. The board was more decisive this time, running JDiamond Suit7Spade SuitADiamond SuitASpade Suit4Spade Suit to send Mikhail Lakhitovto the rail. Liakos is up to around 860,000. – SB

12.38pm: Cooler for Vitkind, out in 23rd

Action was seven-handed at Dmitry Vitkind’s table which makes it that little bit harsher that he just ran ADiamond SuitQHeart Suit into Johnny Jensen’s AHeart SuitASpade Suit.

Jensen had opened under-the-gun for 28,000 and had been called on the button by Lars Krogh. Vitkind eyed up the stack of Jensen and then moved in for around 300,000 and quickly received a call. The board gave no help and Vitkind was sent to the rail, which came crashing down with a large bang just before he reached it.

Jon Spinks was conspicuously close to the fallen railing, supporting John Eames who was at the table Vitkind was vacating. It was Spinks I initially blamed for knocking over the cordon , but he quickly pointed me in someone else’s direction. — RD

12.30pm: Ravn out in 24th

Pernille Ravn is the first player to fall today. She’s lost a chunk of her chips a short while ago (see 12.15pm: Great spot for Hellpi) and the lost went to the same Finn when she ran ace-queen into his ace-king. — RD

12.25pm: Nordkvist in a reluctant fold

Joel Nordkvist played a pot out of position against Jens Lauridsen and it cost him 162,000 chips. He raised to 22,000 from the hijack and called when Lauridsen three-bet to 72,000 from the next seat. The flop came 4Club Suit9Diamond Suit2Diamond Suit and Nordkvist check-called a 90,000 bet. The turn came 6Club Suit and Lauridsen bet 200,000 when checked to him again. Norskvist tanked for several minutes before making a painful and reluctant looking fold. — MC

12.15pm: Great spot for Hellpi

Contrary to what we reported in last night’s wrap up of the day’s events, there is one Finnish player still in the field.

Juha Helppi has tripled-up in a heads-up pot. That sentence does make sense as I will explain.

The action folded around to the Finn on the button and he moved all-in for 135,000. Pernille Ravn was in the small blind and she called out of her 352,000 stack only to see Lars Krogh instantly move in behind her. She looked shocked and reluctantly folded to leave it heads-up.

Helppi: QHeart Suit3Club Suit

Krogh: ADiamond SuitKDiamond Suit

Helppi agreed with a couple of his table mates this was a good spot for him. He voiced his fears that this could be the first and last time he was all-in in this tournament. His fears were allayed though as the board came QDiamond Suit4Spade Suit2Diamond Suit3Spade Suit7Heart Suit to make him two-pair. — MC

11.50am: Welcome back for Day 4

Last night five men, who some would describe as idiots, went out into the cold Copenhagen night air to gaze up at the stars in the fruitless hope of seeing the Space Shuttle Discovery fly by. We’d heard that five minutes after lift-off the Aging technical marvel would be high over Europe. How high, we did not know; which part of Europe we knew not either, but in the spirit of saluting heroes, remarkable men and women with the right stuff, we went out looking for them anyway, peering up at what could only have been described as 95 per cent cloud cover.

After the five minutes had elapsed we went back inside, resigned to the fact we’d missed them hurtling through the stratosphere, and oblivious to the fact that take off had been delayed anyway.

That same spirit is what brings us, and we hope you, back to watch the penultimate day of an event that has hurtled by in similar fashion. There were 449 candidates for champion at the start of this week, now the selection process has whittled them down to 24. That’s good enough to reach today, but only eight will be granted a return tomorrow and ultimately only one will have poker’s right stuff.

Per Linde the leader of last 24 at EPT Copenhagen

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

The European Poker Tour Main Event is down to just 24 players after another frenetic day of play at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Copenhagen, one that featured 49 eliminations and the emergence of a new chip leader.

Per Linde leads the field tonight with 1,622,000 chips, closely followed by Team PokerStars Pro Florian Langmann on 1,304,000 after play reduced the field from 63 to 24 in a little less than eight hours.

It was another good day for the Swedish. A veritable IKEA of them (that is the collective noun, isn’t it?) shuffled their way forward to claim a place in the penultimate day, with six of the raiders from the other end of the Öresundsbron bridge, returning tomorrow, three of whom, Linde, Joel Nordkvist and Michael Tureniec rest in the top four.

There were good days for other Scandinavians, including the Danes Lars Krogh, Jens Lauridsen and Helge Rahbek, who despite losing bubble boy Dennis Bjerregaard, powered through to Day 4 with enough chips to keep those who like to wrap themselves in the red and white Dannebrog happy for at least another night, even if it does prove to be hopeless optimism that one of seven remaining Danes might prevail against their closest rival.

Nightmares though for the Dutch and Finnish, whose chances evaporated today with the departure of all their menfolk. It goes without saying that they were not alone, with several prospects struck down by elimination, including Jonathan Weekes, Domantas Klimciauskas, Robert Akery, JP Kelly and Michael Aron.

Brits might have noticed the demise of the British players looking for a bit of payback over the Viking hordes. Results ran along the same lines as 1,200 years ago, with only John Eames left to represent Her Majesty’s Union.

Langmann is the last Team PokerStars Pro standing, his team mates Kelly and Johnny Lodden eliminated in the money today. Any hope for a double winner was also extinguished, with the departure of Kent Lundmark. The exit of crowd favourite, or at the very least Blog favourite, Nicola Calia, in 25th place, brought the day to a close.

That’s all until tomorrow when we play down to a final table of eight players. That’s when we expect things to get a bit weird. Before that think of this: when play restarts tomorrow the top five players, each with more than a million chips, will be at the same table. See for yourself on the seat draw page.

With that in mind we’re off to put that old Latin phrase Nunc est bibendum to good use and test the courage of a barman with a round of Blue Blazers.

Until tomorrow.

EPT Copenhagen: Day 3, level 19 updates (blinds 5,000-10,000, ante 1,000)

ept-thumb-promo.jpg7.50pm: Bitter-sweet end to the day

We’re pleased that play has come to an end here on Day 3 in Copenhagen but we’re very sad that it has due to the elimination of Nicolo Calia in 25th place.

Helge Rahbek min-raised from the button with 2Diamond Suit2Spade Suit and called when Calia shoved with ADiamond Suit8Spade Suit. The board ran JSpade SuitKSpade Suit7Spade Suit10Diamond Suit7Club Suit. Calia flopped a flush draw with live over cards but failed to hit any of them. He laughed the pain away, gracious in defeat, and shook Rahbek’s hand before making his exit.

The 24 remaining players are bagging up for the night. They will be back at midday tomorrow where they’ll play down to a final table of eight. Official chip counts and a wrap of the day’s play will be up shortly. — MC

7.42pm: Langmann slays crazy Skommo

Orjan Skommo has proved to be quite a handful today, a real throwback to the legends of fearless Scandi beserker poker players. You three-bet me? I’ll shove on you with six-high.

Skommo’s poker rage just ran dry against the technical finishing of Florian Langmann.

The Team PokerStars Pro opened from late position and was three-bet by Skommo to 62,000. Langmann came back over the top for 125,000. What did Skommo do? What do you think he did? He beat himself into a frenzy, frothing at the mouth and all, and shoved for 460,000. Langmann snap-called with KHeart SuitKDiamond Suit. Skommo held 10Spade Suit10Diamond Suit.

The board ran out AHeart Suit9Club Suit3Diamond Suit6Club Suit9Diamond Suit and Langmann scooped the pot to chip up to 1.35 million. Skommo stood up and walked away looking exhausted. A commendable, if not frenzied, performance. — RD

7.30pm: Two Swedes off to the races

Daniel Johansson is a happy man after doubling through fellow Swede and chip leader Joel Nordkvist. Nordkvist raised to 22,000 from the cut-off and then moved all-in when Johansson three-bet to 57,000 from the small blind. Johansson made the call all-in for 187,000 to set up the showdown.

Johansson: QHeart SuitQClub Suit

Nordkvist: ASpade SuitKClub Suit

The board ran a blank 4Heart Suit7Club Suit3Club Suit8Spade Suit5Diamond Suit. Nordkvist still cruising on 1,500,000 chips. — MC

7.20pm: Calia surviving

How is Nicolo Calia still in? He’s barely got any chips. Surely it’s just a matter of time before he busts. Surely? Calia, patron saint of cashing, has his heart set on squeaking through into the final 24 and, from there, the final table. He’s done it before in Tallinn. Can he do it again here?

He shoved for 63,000, a mere pittance at this stage in the game, and after picking up the blinds he flipped over AHeart SuitKSpade Suit. He’s going to need to find an opponent willing to call him if he’s going to chip up. — RD

7.15pm: SuperNova Elite sent back to his suite

When you hear cries from a table and you run over to see two sets of cards on their back and one of them is aces, you know Per Linde is involved. His ADiamond SuitAClub Suit was up against Martin Clemmensen who is a qualifier and has SuperNova status on PokerStars. He tabled 2Heart Suit2Spade Suit and before the board was dealt he said to Linde, “Run like God? I believe you!”

The board came 3Diamond Suit9Spade Suit4Club Suit8Heart Suit7Heart Suit to send the Dane home in 28th place with DKK 75,000 (€10,060). Three more eliminations to go before play ends for the night. — MC

7.10pm: Hirleman out in 29th (€10,060)

Mark Hirleman and Dmitry Vitkind have been in shoving and re-shoving mode for some time now. Vitkind had doubled up a short while ago, but was still being forced to get it in to survive the blinds and antes, Hirleman did not have the same luck.

Dennis Bjerregaard opened the pot for 24,000 and Hirleman moved all-in for 191,000 with [k][q]. Bjerregaard flopped a set and Hirleman takes home €10,060. — RD

7pm: No landmark for Lundmark

The final player with an EPT title to his name has busted. Current EPT Barcelona champion Kent Lundmark was just eliminated. He three-bet shoved with ace-four from the button after a Per Linde cut-off raise. Lars Krogh was sat in the small blind with ace-queen and made the call. Linde folded before the board ran out blank. — MC

6.50pm: Rolling Ravn

Nicola Calia moved all-in, only to be called by another of the short stacks Pernille Ravn. Calia showed ASpade SuitJDiamond Suit to Ravn’s AHeart SuitQClub Suit and the pair watched as the board was dealt.

7Diamond Suit8Spade SuitKClub SuitKSpade Suit10Spade Suit. The good natured confrontation ended with a double up for Ravn, leaving her with 130,000 and Calia about 60,000. – SB

6.47pm: Double up for Hirleman

Mark Hirleman was our Day 1A chip leader and while he’s still in the tournament he’s pretty far away from being one of the big stacks. He just got it in with JSpade SuitJDiamond Suit against pocket eights for his tournament life and is now up to 200,000.

Well known Finnish pro Juha Helppi is a couple of seats away from him on 270,000. — RD

6.40pm: It’s just the way he runs

Juha Vilkki has fallen to chip second Per Linde. He open shoved for 175,000 from the button with ADiamond SuitKSpade Suit and was called by Linde (big blind) and his dominated ASpade Suit6Spade Suit. The board came 6Heart Suit5Diamond Suit10Diamond Suit3Diamond Suit9Heart Suit to pair Linde’s six. Linde offered his hand and said, “I’m sorry, it’s just the way I run.” Linde up to just under 1,400,000 chips. — MC

6.10pm: Break time

That’s the end of the level. A new level, and a new post, will be starting in 15 minutes.

6.05pm: Lodden out

Johnny Lodden’s tournament is over, the Team PokerStars Pro eliminated by Kevin Iacofano.

Iacofano had opened in early position, making it 13,500 which Lodden raised to 30,900. Iacofano then moved all-in which Lodden called, easily covered, and showing ASpade SuitQSpade Suit to Iacofano’s JHeart SuitJClub Suit.

The board ran 7Heart Suit5Diamond SuitKSpade Suit6Club Suit10Diamond Suit to end Lodden’s day as a table breaks. – SB

6pm: Skommo’s ballsy shove

Orjan Skommo almost pulled it off. He’d opened from the cut-off for 17,000 and Jan Sorensen three-bet from the small blind to 45,000. Skommo moved all-in, significantly covering Sorensen who had 230,000 behind. Sorensen went into the tank and I would have put good money on this turning into a tank-fold. It wasn’t. He pushed his chips forward.

Skommo: 6Club Suit4Club Suit

Sorensen: AClub SuitQDiamond Suit

It was a great flop for Sorensen; QSpade Suit2Diamond Suit7Spade Suit, and the hand was settled by the turn with the 2Heart Suit. The river was the 3Spade Suit. Skommo down to 460,000. Sorensen up to 560,000. — RD

5.55pm: The trouble with folding

On a heads-up flop of ASpade SuitQHeart Suit9Heart Suit Jens Lauridsen bet 55,000 from the small blind. Against him was the big blind Mark Hirleman, the leader on Day 1A, who now asked for a count of the vitals. He called and the turn came KClub Suit. Lauridsen then moved all-in for more than 400,000. Hirleman checked his cards again and then tanked for several minutes, playing with some chips as he looked over at Lauridsen and sighed loudly.

Then, after four or five mintues, Hirleman moved his cards out infront of his stack, the tell tale sign that he was about to throw in the town. Soon enough Hirleman folded.

“I don’t like folding,” he said, down to 150,000. Lauridsen meanwhile is up to 560,000.

5.45pm: Dahan dusted

Meir Dahan, the final Israeli in the field, has fallen even after flopping a set. He moved all-in with 4Heart Suit4Club Suit and was called by Daniel Johansson holding KClub SuitKHeart Suit. The board ran JHeart Suit4Diamond SuitKSpade Suit2Diamond SuitAHeart Suit giving both players sets. Dahan takes home DKK 65,000 (€8,718) for his effort in finishing 35th. Johansson moves up to 260,000 after than win. — MC

5.34pm: So long Sangalli

We’re down to 35 players remaining after the departure of Olivier Sangalli. He’d moved all-in for 187,500 behind a raise to 18,500 from Ivan Freitez.

Ivan Freitez called, turning over 8Heart Suit8Spade Suit. Olivier Sangallinow knew he was in trouble, showing 5Diamond Suit5Diamond Suit.

The board ran AClub Suit2Club Suit3Spade Suit2Spade Suit7Diamond Suit sending Olivier Sangalliout. Ivan Freitezup to more than 1,000,000. – SB

5.29pm: Lodden lucks out to double

Johnny Lodden went into shoving mode after dropping down so short. He got a couple through to take the blinds and antes but when he pushed for a third time, with 46,000, he was called by Andrea Dalle Molle on the button and found out he was dominated.

Lodden: QHeart SuitJSpade Suit

Dalle Molle: KClub SuitQDiamond Suit

The board ran 8Diamond SuitKSpade SuitJClub SuitADiamond SuitJClub Suit to make trips for Lodden. “I would’ve taken the chop but that will do better,” joked Lodden. — MC

5.23pm: Check out the chips

The chip counts are all nice and fresh here, go on click on that red bit and have a look. — RD

5.20pm: Lodden close to the felt

Johnny Lodden is down to 35,000 after calling the all-in of Richard Dalberg. Lodden had just lost a pot to Surinder Sunar, re-raised off a flop of 9Diamond Suit4Club Suit10Club Suit to drop down to around 150,000.

Then, with a flop of QHeart Suit2Heart Suit4Spade Suit on the board, Lodden bet from the button after Dalberg checked the action to him. But then Dalberg moved all-in for 97,500 which Lodden called showing KDiamond Suit4Club Suit to Dalberg’s AHeart Suit7Heart Suit. The 6Heart Suit turn and AClub Suit river kept Dalberg alive and left Lodden close to busting. – SB

5.15pm: Unlucky Eames sucks out

John Eames returned to see his seat looking like a small British island just waiting to be plundered by the Swedish big stacks circling his table. Plucky Eames was not going to go down so easily though.

Big stack number one, Joel Nordkvist, opened from the cut-off for 18,000 and Eames moved all-in from the button for 122,500. Big stack number two, Michael Tureniec, made the call. Nordkvist didn’t look interested and passed without further ado.

Eames: ADiamond Suit5Diamond Suit

Tureniec: AHeart SuitKSpade Suit

The JDiamond Suit5Spade Suit5Club Suit flop was an unlikely one, but was well received by Eames. The 6Club Suit turn and 4Spade Suit river did little to change anything. Eames is up to 270,000. — RD

5.05pm: Jensen loses more

Johnny Jensen has dropped below the 200,000 chips mark for the first time in a long time. He raised to 18,500 from the hijack and Juha Helppi peeled from the big blind to see the 5Heart Suit9Club SuitQHeart Suit flop. Both players checked before Helppi led for 20,000 on the 9Diamond Suit turn. Jensen called and called another 25,000 on the 3Club Suit river. Helppi tabled KSpade Suit5Spade Suit and took the pot as he out Jensen’s hand out kicked. The Finnish player is up to 235,000 now. — MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 4,000-8,000, ANTE 500

4.45pm: Break

Another 15-minute break and 37 players walk away from the tournament floor with chips still in play. Chip average is 350,000. Full chips to come. — RD

4.42pm: GG JP

JP Kelly’s day just went from bad to worse. First he had his aces cracked by Lars Krogh who almost missed the fact that he’d had the winning hand, turning over AHeart SuitQDiamond Suit and not spotting the flush on the 5Heart Suit4Diamond SuitQHeart Suit6Heart Suit8Heart Suit board.

That reduced Kelly to 370,000 which just went into the middle in a hand against Per Linde.

Linde opened for 13,000 in early position which Kelly raised to 37,000 from the big blind. Linde then four-bet to 88,000 and Kelly moved all-in, showing AClub SuitKHeart Suit when Linde called showing KDiamond SuitKClub Suit.

The board ran 4Club SuitJHeart SuitQHeart Suit3Diamond Suit7Diamond Suit to send Kelly out and leave Linde armed with around 1,000,000. – SB

4.40pm: Aron not going on

Michael Aron is another player to bust. I’ve heard this anecdotally so take it with a pinch of salt; the American PokerStars qualifier five-bet with [a]9 and found action from Ørjan Skommo with [a][k]. One thing is for sure, Aron is out. — RD

4.35pm: Genot to go?

Pierre Genot opened in middle position for 14,500. Thorsten Schafer re-raised to 35,500 before Genot raised again, this time to 90,000. The inevitable all-in followed, then the call.

It was a good old fashioned aces vs. kings showdown, Schafer with the aces, Genot with the kings.

The board ran 6Club Suit8Spade Suit4Diamond Suit3Club Suit5Heart Suit. So that was that for Genot. No, not quite. As the dealer began giving Schafer the chips the tournament official stopped him and told him to make a count. Genot wasn’t out, he still had chips. Albeit worth just 8,000.

Schafer’s all-in was for 263,500, taking him up to around 550,000. — SB

4.28pm: Jacobson takes on Tureniec

Martin Jacobson is refusing to yield ground to Michael Tureniec. Jacobson opened to 12,500 and was three-bet to 32,500 by Tureniec in the small blind. Jacobson sat and stared at his Swedish counterpart before moving back over the top for a four-bet in the region of 95,000. Tureniec quickly passed. — RD

ept copenhagen_day 3_martin jacobson.jpg

Can Jacobson make a third final table this season?

4.20pm: Ravn swoops

Pernille Ravn has doubled-up against Daniel Pettersen after successfully racing AHeart SuitJClub Suit against pocket nines. Ravn’s 95,000 went in pre-flop and she’s now up to 190,000. Pettersen still has plenty of chips. — RD

4.12pm: Neuville takes a tumble

Pierre Neuville is out. The Belgian had been short stacked and was very much into push or fold poker. Looks like he pushed and was punished. — RD

ept copenhagen_day 3_pierre neuville.jpg

Pierre Neuville, not laughing anymore

4.02pm: Different day, different Swede

If yesterday was a play then by Michael Tureniec was the leading man and he was backed up nicely by Per Linde and Joel Nordkvist in a cast dominated by Swedes. These three players are still at the top of the pile but today but Nordkvist has taken over the lead role, allowing Tureniec to take the supporting role with Linde as the character actor.

Nordkvist is up to a mountainous 1,450,000 chips after forcing Johnny Jensen off a hand. The two were heads-up to the turn where the board read 6Diamond SuitQHeart SuitKClub Suit5Heart Suit and Nordkvist led out for 58,000. Jensen raised but folded when Nordkvist shoved on him. He dropped down to 220,000. — MC

3.51pm: The swirling epicentre

As table breaks take us down to less than 50 players in this Main Event we have, much like yesterday, one table that is swiftly becoming the epicentre of action. And again it has Michael Tureniec at its beating heart.

Alongside that dangerous Swedish million stack we have Martin Jacobson, this season’s star performer, JP Kelly, a prodigious British talent and Team PokerStars Pro, as well as John Eames, an online player who has had major success in some EPT side events but has been yet to shine in the mains.

Funnily enough it was two other players at that table that got into it when I was onlooking; Daniel Johansson and Meir Dahan. The latter opened the pot and was three-bet by Johansson. Dahan called before getting it all in on the KDiamond Suit8Spade Suit[d] flop. Dahan showed pocket eights and Johansson the nut flush draw with ADiamond SuitJDiamond Suit. It got there. Dahan wasn’t happy and is down to 120,000. — RD

3.40pm: How do you pronounce “Øe”?

Andreas Øe moved all-in and Surinder Sunar called. Øe showed ADiamond SuitQSpade Suit. “You’re not winning,” said Sunar with a grin, turning over AClub SuitQClub Suit.

The board ran out harmlessly 8Club Suit4Spade SuitQHeart Suit5Heart SuitKDiamond Suit for a split pot.

A few hands later Sunar was calling an all-in again. When Nikolas Liakos opened for 12,500 Sunar called from the small blind for a AClub Suit7Club Suit5Heart Suit flop.

Sunar checked before Nikolas Liakos bet another 11,500. Sunar raised to 24,000 before Nikolas Liakos announced “all-in.” Sunar called, turning over 5Club Suit5Spade Suit to Nikolas Liakos’s ASpade SuitJSpade Suit.

The turn 9Club Suit and river QDiamond Suit kept Sunar in front. He doubles up to 230,000. – SB

3.25pm: Cards in the air

Play restarts in Level 17 with blinds of 3,000-6,000 with a 500 ante.

3.21pm: The short stacked table

It’s just the way things go; some tables get weighed down with chips while others sit on the fringes of chip society, huddling around a few bare stacks trying to keep their hands warm. One such table has Pierre Neuville, Nicolo Calia and Pernille Ravn sat in line shivering, all desperately trying to keep a grip on their tournament lives.

On the last hand before the break Neuville, looking to swipe away a few morsels from his hungry compatriots, raised the button to 12,000. Calia thought long and hard, several times glancing at the clock, before deciding to safeguard his store of apples for the winter. He passed.

Pernille Ravn opted for the shove, a rabid attack to take what was in the middle. A total of 67,000 she pushed into the middle, daring Neuville to risk most of his own reserves. He passed to leave himself with 70,000. All three are short but Ravn will get to eat at the EPT Copenhagen table a little longer. — RD

3.15pm: Langmann passes 300,000 mark

Florian Langmann just moved up to more than 300,000 after he eliminated Andrey Gulyy. Langmann opened for 11,500 on the button and Gulyy raised to 26,500 in the small blind. After checking the amounts involved Langmann announced all-in and Gulyy called at once, turning over KSpade SuitKHeart Suit. Langmann meanwhile showed ASpade Suit10Spade Suit. Gulyy stood ready to leave, revealing himself to be about seven feet tall.

The board ran QSpade Suit9Club Suit5Diamond SuitAClub Suit5Club Suit. Gulyy is out. Langmann on the up. — SB

Team PokerStars Pro Langmann has been riding the tournament highs and lows

3.08pm: Tureniec running hot

Even when he misses, he hits. Michael Tureniec’s continuation bet for 16,000 into a low 5Spade Suit2Spade Suit2Heart Suit flop was called by Simon Hanninger. Both players checked the 8Club Suit turn card before Tureniec checked the AHeart Suit river and groaned as Hanninger quickly followed in suit. The Swedish big stack showed down ADiamond SuitKClub Suit to scoop the pot. — RD

3.05pm: Sorensen doubles

Jan Sorensen is up to 350,000 after doubling through Kenneth Johnsen. The two were heads-up to the turn where the board read 9Diamond Suit4Heart Suit3Club Suit5Club Suit. Sorensen led for 25,000 before his fellow countryman set him all-in with KHeart Suit4Spade Suit. Sorensen made the call with JDiamond SuitJHeart Suit and faded any nastiness on the 8Heart Suit river. — MC

3pm: Uncontested all-ins

Pernille Ravn just moved all-in but got no takers. At the same table Nicola Calia did the same a few hands later and got the same result.

On the next table there was a flop of 9Club SuitASpade Suit5Diamond Suit and a bet of 12,000 from Dmitry Vitkind. Jan Sorensen called for a turn card 8Heart Suit. when Vitkind bet 20,500 Sorensen then moved all-in for 80,000. Vitkind folded immediately.

In the next hand at this table Florian Langmann opened for 11,500 in middle position. The action was folded to Olivier Sangalli in the big blind who called for a flop of 5Club Suit4Club Suit6Heart Suit. Both players checked and got a 8Spade Suit turn card in return, at which Sangalli bet 16,000 to take the pot. – SB

2.55pm: Nordkvist heading North

Joel Nordkvist has bumped his stack up to nearly 850,000 after two profitable hands. The first against Orjan Skommo with AClub SuitKClub Suit on a 8Club Suit10Club SuitKSpade Suit7Diamond SuitJSpade Suit board. Nordkvist fired at the flop and 38,500 into the turn before both players checked the river. Skommo mucked.

The next hand was a chunky one against Marius Mattson. Nordkvist opened for 14,000 and Mattson called on the button. Nordkvist check-called 16,000 on the 2Heart SuitQSpade Suit8Spade Suit flop, a further 41,000 on the 5Club Suit turn and a chunky 100,500 on the JClub Suit river. Nordkvist showed JHeart SuitQDiamond Suit for top two-pair against the 2Club Suit3Club Suit river bluff of Mattson. He’s down to 110,000. — RD

2.46pm: Lodden doubles

Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden has doubled-up his short stack. He moved all-in with pocket sevens and was called by Per Linde in the next seat, holding pocket kings. Lodden spiked a seven to make a set and is up to about 110,000 chips. — MC

ept copenhagen_day 3_johnny lodden.jpg

Key double up for Johnny Lodden

2.40pm: Players loosening up

As you would expect, the remaining playing are loosening up a lot in this post bubble period and with that comes eliminations. The latest player to suffer in this way was Claus Tversted. He three-bet shoved for around 30,000 after PokerStars qualifier Olivier Sangalli opened. Call.

Tversted: ASpade Suit10Diamond Suit

Sangalli: AClub SuitQClub Suit

The board ran KHeart Suit3Diamond Suit2Heart Suit8Diamond Suit3Spade Suit. Neither player improved but Sangalli’s queen played and he collected the pot and a scalp. — MC

2.35pm: What a difference a Weekes makes

Jonathan Weekes has been eliminated. He moved in for around 150,000 with QHeart SuitQSpade Suit which Thorsten Schafer called with AClub SuitKClub Suit.

The board ran JSpade SuitKSpade Suit9Club Suit2Club Suit7Club Suit to send Weekes out and leave Schafer with around 550,000. – SB

2.30pm: Calia doubles

Nicolo Calia has just made his 11th EPT cash, quite an impressive feat. He just scored a vital double-up after shoving from the button for 27,500 with AClub Suit10Club Suit and getting called by Daniel Pettersen in the big blind with ADiamond SuitQDiamond Suit.

The flop couldn’t have been better for Calia with it coming 10Spade Suit8Club SuitKClub Suit for a pair and flush draw. Blank turn and river cards meant the Italian doubled-up to 60,000. Is it a long stretch of the imagination to think he’ll make his second final table? — RD

2.20pm: Hanna hung on

Alber Hanna is the first player out in the money. He had about six big blinds when he shoved from late position with AClub Suit8Diamond Suit. Simen Johannessen was sat in the next seat and made an easy call with ASpade SuitKDiamond Suit. The board ran KHeart Suit7Club Suit7Spade Suit2Heart Suit4Club Suit to make two-pair for Johannessen. He takes home DKK 55,000 (€7,377) for finishing 64th.

The chip count page has recently been updated. Click here to see. — MC

2.10pm: The bubble bursts

There goes the bubble, flying away with Dennis Bjerregaard hanging from it.

Bjerregaard opened for 11,000 in early position which Ørjan Skommo raised to 26,500 from the cut off. The action was passed through the blinds back to Bjerregaard who looked at his cards again and moved all-in for 130,500. Skommo called and Bjerregaard immediately turned over QDiamond SuitQHeart Suit then turned them back over again as in situations like this, hand for hand, players are told not to reveal their cards so as to avoid word getting out.

As hands came to an end on other tables the only question remaining was: what did Skommo hold. The answer came soon enough as he eventually turned over ADiamond SuitKSpade Suit, adding before hand as he looked at the crowd gathered around the table; “Obviously there are a lot of people cheering for me.”

The flop came 4Spade Suit6Spade Suit9Spade Suit. Suddenly Bjerregaard had to dodge a flush also, which proved irrelevant when the KClub Suit hit the turn. The 9Diamond Suit meant nothing on the river.

Having winced on the turn Bjerregaard managed a smile as his departure was confirmed. There were handshakes and a round of applause. It was all very dignified. — SB

ept copenhagen_day 3_bubble time.jpg

2pm: Still cagey

Plays continues to be a little tight around the bubble. Tureniec still looks to be the chip leader, but not by as much as he was. — RD

1.50pm: Back from break

The players are back in their seats. A full chip count took place during the break and we’ll get that posted up in our chip counts page as soon as it’s available. — RD

1.35pm: Break

It’s a 15-minute break with hand-for-hand play still ongoing. There has been some action but nothing major with few players wanting to make a big mistake for the €7,377 bubble. Colouring up is taking place during the break. — RD

1.22pm: Wise old hands

Earlier on Pernille Ravn opened for 8,500 from the cut off which was folded round to Pierre Neuville in the big blind.

Neuville, a veteran when it comes to situations like this, slowly pushed his stack in, worth about 90,000; an experienced member of the Old Guard not phased in a period of player that causes panic in others.

Sensing this Ravn passed, patting the table.

“Do you want to see?” asked Neuville. Ravn nodded and the Belgian turned over KDiamond SuitKSpade Suit.

“It’s the minimum for me to go all-in with,” he joked. “You should know. My reputation is there.” He then gestured towards Nicola Calia in the seat next to him. “He knew.” – SB

1.12pm: Bubbling up

The bubble is still going on and while at most tournaments that wouldn’t be big news, it is here. This tournament is crammed full of aggressive Scandies so we fully expected the hand for hand period to last, well, little more than for a couple of hands.

There has been some action, just no callers. For instance, Jon Weekes three-bet shoved over the top of Thorsten Schafer’s 8,000 open raise and showed a JHeart Suit when Schafer passed. — RD

1pm: Bubble time

It’s that nerve wracking time of the tournament for all the remaining players as we’re on the bubble. Sixty-five players remain and and only 64 of those are getting paid. Stay tuned to find out who the disappointed soul will be. — MC

12.50pm: Kelly infuriates Tsymbal

Igor Tsymbal has fallen just short of the money after getting three-outed by Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly.

The Brit raised to 10,000 from the hijack and was called by Thorsten Schafer on the button before Tsymbal moved all-in for 32,000 from the small blind. Kelly then raised behind to isolate the Russian and it worked. Schafer folded.

Tsymbal: KHeart SuitJClub Suit

Kelly: KDiamond Suit8Spade Suit

The board ran ADiamond SuitQSpade Suit5Heart Suit8Diamond SuitKSpade Suit. Tsymbal made top pair but lost out to Kelly’s two-pair. The Russian was clearly frustrated and threw his player ID card in with his lost chips. It was not clear whether he was more frustrated at losing this hand or the one before against Jonathan Weekes. A combination of the two I suspect. — MC

12.37pm: Big hand for Weekes

Jon Weekes has just doubled through Igor Tsymbal to put himself into back into healthy shape for another deep EPT run. I joined the action on the QHeart Suit10Spade Suit5Club Suit flop and saw both players check with Weekes being in position and the pre-flop aggressor.

The 4Diamond Suit was enough for Tsymbal to fire 10,000 into the pot, which had close to 30,000 in it. Weekes had 55,000 behind and pushed 25,000 of that across the line. Tsymbal quickly called and just as quickly checked the AHeart Suit turn.

Weekes waited a few moments before moving all-in for 29,800. Call. Weekes turned over QClub SuitQDiamond Suit for a set to Tsymbal’s AClub SuitJHeart Suit. The Russian has just 27,000 left. Weekes up to over 140,000.

Martin Clemmensen in seat one said: “I just knew it. So obvious,” before realising that it was a bit of a rub down to Tsymbal. — RD

12.32pm: Four from the money

The recent exit of Niclas Hall means we only have to lose four more players to be in the money. Hall got the last of his chips in behind but shot onto the lead, only to finish up behind again. He raised from the button and called all-in when PokerStars qualifier Charles Mclntyre shoved from the small blind.

Hall: ADiamond SuitJDiamond Suit

McIntyre: AClub SuitKDiamond Suit

The board ran a roller-coaster JHeart Suit6Heart SuitQSpade Suit5Club SuitKHeart Suit. Hall cheered on the flop but he was a bit premature as it was McIntyre cheering last. — MC

12.22pm: Tureniec takes out Brito

Fernando Brito has just been knocked out by Michael Tureniec who continues to pound the field with his chip lead.

Brito had opened for 12,000 and has been three-bet by Tureniec from the button. Brito sat for some time while deciding what to do.

It was so long a tank that Josh Prager was balancing back on his chair fiddling with his iPhone and Martin Jacobson had adopted a glassy-eyed 1,000 yard stare off in the general direction of the tournament clock. Then he called.

Like a rubber band snapping back into place, Brito shoved forward his remaining 35,000 into the middle the second the 10Spade SuitKClub SuitJSpade Suit flop had been dealt. It was Tureniec’s turn to think. It didn’t take long. Call.

Tureniec: 9Spade Suit9Diamond Suit for an under-pair – his gutshot dominated by Brito’s ace

Brito: AHeart SuitJClub Suit for middle pair and gutshot

Brito was in great shape with the 6Diamond Suit on the turn, until the 9Heart Suit on the river. — RD

12.15pm: Man down

Swedish player Theodor Lothman came back with just 47,600 today and it wasn’t long before he found a hand to move all-in with. He did this from mid-position and was called by Meir Dahan in the small blind.

Lothman: QClub SuitQDiamond Suit

Dahan: AClub SuitQSpade Suit

Lothan was in great shape to double-up but could fade the three outer on the 10Club Suit7Diamond Suit3Heart SuitJHeart SuitAHeart Suit board. — MC

12pm: More introductions

Gloria Balding introduces Day 3 of EPT Copenhagen and talks to Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly, who, thanks to a strong finish the day before, returned to a big stack today.

11.55pm: Day 3 in Copenhagen

Welcome back to Copenhagen for Day 3 of the European Poker Tour’s Danish leg. If you were following our coverage yesterday you’ll know that only 73 players remain from the original starting field of 449, a figure that today will be reduced to 24. And that is your no frills intro to the day, written originally in long hand owing to minor technical difficulties.

Our problems aside the day will shape up like this.

We will continue to play 75 minute levels and play on until just three tables remain, at which time play will stop.

Who will be among that number will be decided today, but the likes of Michael Tureniec (640,000) and Per Linde (514,000), the leaders going into the day, should be most confident. At the other end of the scale Kenneth Johnsen has the hardest mountain to climb, returning as the short stack armed with just 25,700 chips.

Before that though we must first burst the money bubble. Of the remaining players only 64 will receive financial compensation for their efforts, making for nine miserable faces coming right up.

Play is about to begin. — SB

Tureniec trounces opposition on way to EPT Copenhagen lead

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

If Day 1 of the EPT Copenhagen Main Event had been a cocktail, it would be a Gimlet; fairly neat with a high sugar content, simple ingredients thrown together and shaken, with the result being a good sharpener to get things started.

Day 2 on the other hand would be more a Blue Blazer, a concoction of the legendary bartender Jerry Thomas, that Neil J Ridley, superlative booze columnist for The Chap magazine, described as “a cocktail so difficult to master that novices are advised to wear oven gloves.”

The reason is plain to see when attempted. Assembling this masterpiece takes a skilled mixologist with two large silver plated mugs, one filled with whisky, the other with boiling water. The whisky is first ignited, then, with the temperance society kept at a safe distance, the boiling water is added. The glorious blue mixture is then poured rapidly from one mug to the other. As superior cocktail books testify, “If well done, this will have the appearance of a continued stream of liquid fire.” Serve with a twist of lemon.

In typical EPT fashion, Day 2 in Copenhagen was as volatile as this house party nightmare, no continued stream of liquid fire perhaps, but a constant stream of bust-outs, a mass exodus that slashed the playing field from 262 at 12 noon today, to 73 six levels later.

Hottest of the lot, as players bag-up and sign for chips tonight, is leader Michael Tureniec, a talented Swedish professional who closed on 640,000. It was a day perfect for expansion. As players busted, chips could be found everywhere, it was simply a matter of getting your hands on them. Those that did would be well suited to contest the lead.

michael_tureniec_ept7cop_wrap_d2.jpg

Chip leader Michael Tureniec

That would include the merry bunch behind the leader, a gang that for the most part had been forced to share a table with.

If the passage through Day 2 was rough for some, it was rougher for others. Johnny Lodden (193,700), Juha Helppi (159,000), Peter Eastgate, Michael Aron (205,400) and Day 1 chip leader Domantas Klimciauskas (212,200), all squared up to Tureniec and, barring Eastgate, all lived to tell the tale, one riddled with frustration.

Like a pack of Friday night revellers penned into a queue outside a night club, with only an unfavourable bouncer ahead of them, these players were itching to be let loose inside. But Tureniec, a former runner-up at EPT London, made the decisions and they were going nowhere.

With a pack of such regard in place it was easy to miss others finishing well. Per Linde is closest to Tureniec, with 514,600, Joel Nordqvist has 419,000, Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly has 416,000, Daniel Pettersen has 373,000 and Thomas Schaeffer finished with 365,800.

They’ll form the main thrust for what will be another action-filled day when play reconvenes tomorrow. That’s when the field will be reduced to 24, with a bubble to burst and 49 more eliminations go through, a fate that was met by 189 players today.

Among that weary crowd were the likes of Annette Obrestad, Kevin Stani, Jake Cody, Allan Baekke and Xuan Liu, along with the Team PokerStars Pros Arnaud Mattern, Ville Wahlbeck, John Duthie and Team Online Pro Anders Berg.

A weighty cast all now resigned to side events and risky excursions out into the local climate. Their EPT Copenhagen may be over but the remainder pick up where they left off tomorrow.

On the shoulders of giant stacks

It’s another football night tonight in the player lounge. Picture having your friends round for Sunday night football, or the Indy 500, then multiple that by fifty and give them all beer. The blog team will be watching too, albeit with one eye on the screen, the other on the uncompromising bar bill.

See you tomorrow.

EPT Copenhagen: Day 2, level 13 & 14 updates (blinds 1,500-3,000, ante 300)

ept-thumb-promo.jpg8.50pm: Play concludes

The last six hands played out without any major incidents, fights or fire evacuations. Chip leader at the end of the day is Swedish player Michael Tureniec who bagged up 640,000. The next nearest player is fellow Swede Per Linde on 514,600. Play will continue at midday tomorrow. A full wrap of the day will be up shortly for your reading pleasure. — MC

8.38pm: Kelly moving up, Aron moving on

JP Kelly is up to over 400,000 now building on that last big win but Tureniec still looks like the man to catch. Perhaps fortuitously for him, PokerStars qualifier Michael Aron has been moved away from Tureniec. It should make it fairly certain that he’ll make the end of the day now. The board shows 81 players are left. — RD

8.30pm: Last six hands

Tournament director Kevin has stopped the clock and informed the room every table will play six more hands before ending for the day. — MC

8.25pm: Kelly cruising

JP Kelly is up to 360,000 after flopping trip sixes against Danny Neess and getting three streets of value. the final board read 6Diamond Suit9Club Suit6Spade SuitKHeart Suit3Heart Suit and a 71,200 pot sixed Kelly bet was called. He tabled 8Club Suit6Club Suit and Neess mucked. — MC

8.20pm: He battles to the left and he battles to the right

Michael Tureniec is really using his big stack to great effect. Not long after battling and bettering Michael Aron his gave Domantas Klimciauskas a taste of the same medicine. The two were in the blinds and the betting went: Klimciauskas 8,000, Tureniec 21,500, Klimciauskas 54,000, Tureniec 87,500 and a tank fold from Klimciauskas. The Lithuanian dropped to 270,000 and Tureniec is up to a massive 630,000. — MC

8.10pm: Tureniec and Aron clash again

Michael Tureniec and Michael Aron have been going at each other all day long and this was certainly one of the chunkier ones. Tureniec opened the pot and was three-bet to 15,500 by Aron. The Swede came back over the top for 32,600 and Aron five-bet for 75,000. It was a big question and one that Tureniec seemed happy to answer.

Tureniec moved all-in and Aron passed. The Swede now has 575,000 for a healthy chip lead. — RD

8pm: Flop betting

Johnny Lodden and Pernille Ravn both took down small pots with flop aggression to aid their stacks.

Lodden raised from early position and the big blind defended to see the KClub SuitAHeart Suit5Club Suit flop. Lodden continued with a 8,700 bet and that was good for the pot.

Moments later Pernille Ravn raised and former chip leader, Johnny Jensen, called from the big blind. The flop came down ADiamond Suit7Diamond Suit6Spade Suit and Jensen led for 8,600 but folded when Ravn raised to 21,000. “Stop messing around”, she added.

Their stacks at the end of the hands were: Lodden (90,000), Ravn (115,000) and Jensen (340,000). — MC

7.47pm: Power poker from Kelly

Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly is up to 220,000 after treating Gustavo Zito to a brand of power poker. Zito raised to 7,000 and called when Kelly three-bet tot 17,200 from the cut-off. The flop came down 7Diamond Suit6Spade Suit8Spade Suit and Zito checked. Kelly asked Zito how much he had and when he found out it was around 100,000 he moved all-in. Zito was powerless and folded. — MC

7.42pm: That table keeps getting tougher

Michael Tureniec is now sat on around 460,000 at a table that just keeps getting more and more chips. Peter Eastgate’s dismissal from action opened up a seat that has now been occupied by overnight chip leader Domantas Klimciauskas. He sits down with 320,000. Michael Aron is also well stacked.

Not everyone has a monster stack though. Juha Helppi is still chugging along with 120,000 while Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden is a little shorter with 80,000. — RD

7.35pm: Short stacks double

Daniele Guidetti and Tommy Dender were both very short when they got their stacks in the middle and both of them doubled-up.

Guidetti was under-the-gun and moved in for his last 15,100 and was called by Steen Vester in the big blind with QSpade Suit10Diamond Suit. Guidetti tabled a dominating KClub SuitQClub Suit that stayed ahead through the 3Spade Suit2Diamond Suit9Heart Suit7Heart SuitAHeart Suit board.

A minute later, on an adjacent table, Dender shoved for around 12,000 from the button with QDiamond SuitJHeart Suit and was called by the big blind holding QHeart Suit2Spade Suit. The board came AClub Suit4Club Suit6Heart Suit9Heart Suit8Heart Suit to double the colourful Dane up. He was very happy and shouted, “Tommy D is in the house”.

Just as I was about to post this Dender walked passed the press room cursing in Danish. I guess he’s out then. — MC

7.25pm: Fantastic news

We’re entering the last level of the day. They’ll be a consolidated push by some players to get a vital double or die (not literally) in the trying. There’s around 100 runners left and with 64 players getting paid it will be a nail biting end to the day for some. — RD

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,500-3,000, ANTE 300

7.10pm: Eastgate’s comeback over

PokerStars sponsored Peter Eastgate’s comeback tournament has ended is disappointment. He raised pre-flop and picked up Michael Aron along the way to a 5Club Suit2Heart Suit8Heart Suit flop. Eastgate check-raised his opponent’s 8,000 bet up to 15,000 only to face a three-bet to 27,700. His response was to move all-in for about 100,000 with QDiamond SuitQSpade Suit. Aron snap called with 5Diamond Suit5Heart Suit for middle set and it held through the 3Club SuitJSpade Suit turn and river. Aron is up to around 300,000 whereas Eastgate is pondering whether to sample the free buffet. — MC

7pm: Another one gone

Another elimination and this time it’s Robert Lundh making their way to the rail. Sending him there was Martin Jacobson who called Lundh’s all in with QClub SuitQSpade Suit against Lundh’s ADiamond SuitQDiamond Suit.

The board ran QHeart SuitKDiamond Suit8Heart Suit3Diamond Suit8Spade Suit to dispatch one player and leave Martin Jacobson with around 150,000 chips. – SB

6.52pm: Beating up Jack Bauer

Michael Tureniec has more than a passing resemblance to a young Jack Bauer if you ask me. He seems to play in a similar way too; calm under pressure, fearless with his raises and with a ruthless streak that wouldn’t surprise you if you heard him saying, “We’re gonna need a hacksaw.”

Peter Eastgate opened to 5,500 in the cut-off and was three-bet to 12,400 by Tureniec from the button. Michael Aron, a player not afraid to tangle with Tureniec, cold four-bet to 27,000 and Eastgate passed.

Tureniec asked: “How much did you have at the start of the hand?”

“One hundred and fifty behind,” Aron replied.

Tureniec passed looking at Aron as if he was a bomb to defuse some other day. — RD

6.45pm: Lodden the blogger

Johnny Lodden is doing our job for us at the moment. His most recent tweet was: “Just lost a huge hand. Raise 5200, I call in SB, BB push 65k. Raiser fold and I call with AQ vs K6. He hits str8 and flush on the river.170”. — MC

6.40pm: No surrender Sunar

Surinder Sunar opened for 6,300 from under-the-gun. The action was folded all the way back around to Ove Sundvor in the big blind who raised to 15,800. Sunar, wearing a woolly hat and with only the right hand iPod ear piece in his ear, asked for a count of the raise. The dealer told him it was 9,500. Sunar passed.

Already talk of tonight’s football match is being brought up. When Lars Flindt Halkier mentioned that all the games are to be shown in the casino downstairs, Per Linde wanted details, while Sunar asked who was playing, like a man with absolutely zero interest in football.

Sunar was involved in the next hand when, on a flop of 5Heart Suit8Club SuitKHeart Suit Ove Sundvor bet 2,400 from the small blind. Sunar was in the big and fired out 10,000, good for the pot. He hovers around the 115,000 mark. — SB

6.30pm: Table of death

In the break Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden tweeted: “Just got moved from the best table in the room to the far worst” and he wasn’t lying.

As mentioned earlier his stack of 250,000 is up against Peter Eastgate (106,000), Michael Tureniec (270,000) Michael Aron (180,000) and Juha Helppi (160,000). Good luck, Mr. Lodden. —MC

6.20pm: Calling the clock on himself

Tommy Dender is down to 28,000 after making a painful-looking fold on the river against PokerStars qualifier Mark Hirleman. The Dane raised from under-the-gun and Hirleman defended from the big blind to see a 7Club Suit7Heart Suit10Diamond Suit flop.

Dender’s 3,300 c-bet was treated with a raise up to 12,000. Call. The turn came 4Club Suit and Dender called a 15,000 bet. On the 9Club Suit river Hirleman moved all-in and Dender went into the tank.

“I put you on two hands”, said Dender. “A sh** seven or pocket queens”, he continued.

Eventually Dender called the clock on himself and was given one minute to act by a floor lady. “Not a shame to fold aces”, Dender said to himself. The clock ran out and Dender’s hand was declared dead even though he said he was going to call. Hirleman said to Dender that he had a seven and that made him feel a lot better. — MC

6.10pm: Tough table

We mentioned way back in one of the earlier levels that Peter Eastgate had joined big stack Michaels Tureniec and Aron to make a tough looking table. Those three are still sat in consecutive seats there with Juha Helppi (who started the day there but now has chipped up) and Johnny Lodden (a fresh addition with a lot of chips). All five have at least 100,000, some significantly more so. With 114 players left it wouldn’t be madness to say that there’s a good possibility the EPT Copenhagen winner is at this table. — RD

6.05pm: Drat

Turns out we’re an hour early for the buffet. — SB

6pm: Back from the break..

…and into the action. We’re hitting the buffet, will be back shortly. — RD
