Mark Schmid completed the small blind and Justin Cohen checked the big blind.

The flop came KSpade Suit 10Spade Suit 7Heart Suit and both players checked.

The turn was the 7Spade Suit, and once again both players checked.

The river was the ASpade Suit, Cohen checked, Schmid bet 450,000, Cohen check-raised all in and Schmid called.

Cohen turned over JHeart Suit 7Club Suit for trip sevens on the turn, but Schmid showed QSpade Suit QClub Suit for a flush on the river to win the pot. Justin Cohen was eliminated in 2nd place ($302,031) while Mark Schmid wins the gold bracelet in Event #34 and the $488,283 grand prize.

Short Stacks Double Up, Lots of Chips Change Hands

Robbie Verspui started the level as the short stack and found a quick double up through chip leader Mark Schmid with AClub Suit KDiamond Suit against Schmid’s ASpade Suit JClub Suit. It was a rag board and Verspui doubled up to over a million that hand.

Another short stack, Benjamin Volpe also found himself a quick double this past level after getting it in pre-flop with KSpade Suit JHeart Suit against Justin Cohen’s AHeart Suit QSpade Suit. Volpe was behind until the river where he spiked the KDiamond Suit to double up to over a million chips.

Cohen then lost half of his remaining stack to Andrew Rudnik after Rudnik shoved pre-flop with pocket jacks and Cohen snapped him off with aces. In for his tournament life, Rudnik spiked a third jack on the river to double up to 1.1 million, forcing Cohen back down to about 500,000.

Cohen found a little redemption towards the end of the level after doubling back through Benjamin Volpe with KSpade Suit QSpade Suitagainst Volpe’s AClub Suit QHeart Suit. Cohen was behind when the money went in but spiked a king on the turn to double up to over 1.7 million that hand.
