Updates on Final Day (Apr 14, 06)

Marcel Luske Wins

Marcel Luske is the 2006 4th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic Champion. He'll take home $315,630, the diamond-gold bracelet and has qualified for a seat into the World Poker Tour Championship on the 18th.

The Final Hand

John Phan was on the button. On the turn (9c-3c-2c-2h) there was around 200,000 in the pot. Marcel Luske bet 300,000 and Phan thought for several minutes. "I won't call." Said Phan. "I'll either muck or raise all in." Luske warned him, "If you go all in, I'll call." Phan finally moved his chips to the center and Luske called. Luske had Phan covered. Phan turned over Jd-3h for two pair, but Luske was way ahead with 10c-6c (a flush). Phan needed to pair, or pair the board for a full house. But the river couldn't save Phan and Luske eliminated him in 2nd place.

John Phan is runner up in today's event. ($179.195).

The 15th Millionaire?

John Phan has already cashed at the Bellagio in five major events, bringing his WPT winnings to over $742,000. If he wins tonight, he'll be their 15th millionaire. Good luck to both players.

The Marcel Luske Show

Marcel Luske seems to have brought his own media group from the Netherlands. His celebrity status is such that the 4 man camera crew, Dutch news crew and his very own boom lighter are waiting in the rafters for the results.

John Phan vs. Marcel Luske

It's heads up between two exciting players - Amsterdam's Marcel Luske and Los Angelean, John Phan. Marcel has over one million in chips, while John Phan holds about 750,000. Phan will start the next hand on the button, with the small blind.

Shuffle up and deal.

Jeff Knight is out in 3rd place ($89,600)

Jeff Knight moved all in after the flop Q-9-7), and Marcel Luske called. Marcel showed pocket aces and Knight had paired a queen. The turn was a deuce and the river a blank, proving that pocket rockets don't always get cracked. Knight was eliminated, leaving Phan and Luske heads-up going into the break.

Jeff Knight went home in 3rd place ($89,600).

Joeseph Miceli is out in 4th place ($51,195)

Joe Miceli went all in with Ac-Qd and Phan (in late position) called. Phan turned over pocket tens. The flop came Jd-8s-3d. Phan was still in the lead going into the turn (Jc) and sealed it on the river (10).

Joseph went out in 4th place ($51,195).

Jean Gaspard is out in 5th place ($38,400)

Jean Gaspard went all in with Kh-9d and Joseph Miceli called with Ad-Jd. The flop came 10c-6c-3d and and Miceli was in the lead going into the turn (Qh). Gaspard would need a jack (for the straight), a king or a nine to win. But the 4d fell on the river and Jean "Prince" Gaspard was elimated.

Jean Gaspard went out in 5th place ($38,400)

Joe Miceli doubles through Knight

Jeff Knight went all in against Joe Miceli. Knight had pocket nines and Miceli had pocket jacks. The board doubled paired, as well (K-6-6-4-4) and Miceli's hand was good going in and out, as he doubled through Knight.

John Phan Eliminates Ray Millard in 6th place ($29,865).

Ray Millard was short stacked for a while and finally went all in before the flop. John Phan called and showed 5-4 suited (clubs). Millard had Q-7 suited (spades). The flop came Ah-10c-2h missing both players' flush draws. The 3c came on the turn to give Phan a wheel, leaving Millard drawing dead on the river. Ray Millard went home in 6th place ($29,865).
