Updates on Final Day (Dec 06, 06)

The Lady Leaves The Table

DeRosa, in the small blind, moved all in for about 65k. Luong, next to act, called from the big blind. DeRosa had 8spade-7heart, Gioi showed Kspade-10diamond. The flop came Aspade-Qspade-2heart, adding to Gioi’s advantage with a straight draw. The turn and the river, 6heart-Jdiamond, sealed De Rosa’s fate. But the two were so close in chip counts, Luong did little more than double up, though did have DeRosa covered. Timmi DeRosa went home in 6th place with $20,430.

Blinds Battle - Ends Badly For Witteman

Everyone folded to Witteman, in the small blind, who moved all in for 100k. Glazer, on the big blind, called. Witteman turned over pocket Kclub-Kspade. Glazer leaned back in his chair, and to Witteman’s dismay, casually turned over his higher pair, Adiamond-Aheart. The board was a wash for Ty Witteman, who went home in 7th place with $14,595.

Farhad Sinaei Out in 8th Place

Glazer, in late position, raised to 24k, it was folded to Sinaei, who moved all in for around 100k from the small blind. Everyone else got out of the way, while Glazer called and turned over Kclub-Kheart. Sinaei had pocket 10diamond-10spade. The board came Kspade-Qclub-7heart-4spade-2spade and Sinaei’s hand had just as much value going in as it did coming out. Farhad Sinaei finished in 8th place with $11,675.

Witteman Doubles Up... Twice

DeRosa moved all in before the flop for 180k in middle position. Witteman, on the button, called with his last 110k. DeRosa turned over 7spade-7club, Witteman turned over Jclub-Jheart. The board came 8club-6diamond-5spade-3club-3diamond, doubling Witteman up through DeRosa.

Witteman, in early position, raised to 40k. Sinaei, in the big blind, moved all in. Sinaei had Witteman covered. Witteman had Aspade-Qclub and Sinaei turned over Aheart-Jspade. The flop came Kdiamond-10heart-4diamond, giving each player a straight draw. The turn was another Kheart, and Sinaei needed a jack or a queen to win. But the river was the 5heart, crippling Sinaei and doubling Witteman up again.

Jeff Blenkarn Out in 9th Place

Bonyadi, on the big blind, moved all in for around 300k before the flop. It was folded to Blenkarn, in late position, who called with his last 55k. Bonyadi had Qheart-Qclub and Blenkarn turned over Aclub-3spade. The board came Jheart-9club-7diamond-5diamond-2heart, giving Bonyadi the win and sending Jeff Blenkarn home in 9th place with $10,215.

David Cai Out in 10th Place

DeRosa, in middle position, raised to 40k. Cai, next to act, moved all in for his last 60k. DeRosa had pocket Kheart-Kclub. Cai had Aclub-Kdiamond. The flop came came Qclub-6diamond-4spade, and DeRosa was still ahead going into the turn and river, 5diamond-3diamond. David Cai went  him home in 10th place with $8,755.

Luong Doubles Through Glazer

Luong moved all in under the gun for 70k.  It was folded around to Glazer who called in late position. Luong had Qheart-Aheart and Glazer turned over Aspade-9diamond. The flop came Kheart-9heart-5club and Glazer had paired his nines. But Luong had a flush draw. The turn was a Qspade, putting Luong way into the lead going into the river. The 6club awarded Luong the pot and doubled him up through Glazer.

Brotherly Poker Love

It turns out Nick Binger really is a part of the royal Binger family. Big brother Michael Binger is the 2006 World Series of Poker Championship third place finisher. Michael says his brother has been playing for about a year and a half, but ran unlucky for a while. Looks like the table has turned, as he’s outlasted 508 other entrants. But then again he bubbled the final table, going out in 11th place with $7,295.

Big brother Binger was proud of his younger protégé and enthusiastic about his ability as a player. “Nick’s been playing really good lately,” said Michael just before his brother’s elimination. “He’s having a good run in this event.”

Two Tables and 16 Players

Yesterday’s heavily populated $1,500 NLH Event 6 played out into the wee hours.  Fahrzad “Fred” Bonyadi is the leader with over 200k, while Johnathan Westra comes the closest to giving “B” any grief with 170k. Jeff Blenkarn, Airy Phanhyaseng, and Andreas Corneliusson are hovering over the 120k mark and sit within 1,300 chips of each other. Our leading lady, Timmi DeRosa is right behind, while Gioi Luong is eking over the 100k mark. David Cai, Ty Witteman, Farhad Sinaei, and Joe Jacob hover around the higher double digits. but Rob Kelepouris, Nick Binger (any relation to Michael?), Jay Glazer, Scott Warner, and especially Peter Ng are going to have to work it out at the final tables or face early elimination.

This is what they’re fighting for:
1. $244,395
2. $131,335
3. $69,315
4. $40,095
5. $29,185
6. $20,430
7. $14,595
8. $11,675
9. $10,215
