Updates on Final Day (Jun 18, 07)

Boris Muchnik Wins Event# 7 ($53,835)

Kush Patel pushes all in for his last $40,000 and is called by Boris Muchnik.  Patel shows 9 9 and Muchnik shows K Q.  The flop comes 9 8 3, and Patel is a huge favorite to double up.  But the turn and river come J 10 giving Muchnik the straight and eliminating Patel in second place.  For his finish, Patel earns $36,375.  Muchnik wins the bracelet and $53,835.

Huge Pot, Boris Muchnik Doubles Up

The flop is 5 4 9.  Kush Patel bets $7,000 and Boris Muchnik check raises to $32,000.  Patel makes the call and the turn is the 10.  Muchnik instantly goes all in for his last $100,000.  Patel thinks for over five minutes before calling with 5 6 for the pair with a flush draw.  Muchnik shows 9 5 and is way ahead with two pair.  Online players Psyduck, AaronBeen and Aruba WPT final tablist Isaac Haxton are rooting for the dealer to turn over a diamond, but the river is the 7 and Muchnik doubles up to the chip lead.  After the hand, Patel is down to $35,000 while Muchnik is sitting with $265,000.

The blinds are going up to $1,500/$3,000 with a $500 ante.

Heads Up Play

Heads up play has begun.  Players have so far spent the last 10 minutes just trading blinds back and forth.

Emeline Boich Eliminated 3rd Place ($18,915)

Emeline Boich pushes all in for $28,800 on the button.  Kush Patel asks her to count it and then makes the call with A 10.  Boich shows K 8 and the board comes J 6 4 3 10 eliminating Boich.  Boich's third place finish improves upon her husband Wayne's fifth place finish yesterday.

Back From Break

Players have returned from break.  Rumor has it that Kush Patel spent his break with his buddies playing video poker.  The truth is that they spent it hiding from Chad Brown.

Chip Counts

The chip count tab has been updated with counts from the break.

Break

Players are now on a 15-minute break.  Players will return to blinds of $1,000/$3,000 with a $300 ante.

Dramatic Change In Pace

After starting off at a frantic pace, play has slowed down to a crawl.  We've only seen the river twice in the last 20 hands, and both times were because the players checked it down.  Kush Patel has been taking down most of the pots, but he doesn't mind seeing chips go from the solid Emeline Boich to the unpredictable Boris Muchnik.

Chip Counts

The chip counts tab has been updated.  Kush Patel is closing in on two thirds of the chips in play.

Rodney Shows Eliminated 4th Place ($10,175)

Rodney Shows raises to $4,900 from the button.  Boris Muchnik calls from the big blind.  The flop comes K 10 2 and Muchnik bets out $1,600 into the $10,000+ pot.  Shows thinks for a second before pushing all in for $9,200 more.  Muchnik slowly counts out his chips and makes the call showing 5 7 for the Seven high flush draw.  Miraculously, Muchnik is drawing much better than he should be and is up against Shows' 8 9.  Nine high is currently in the lead, but Muchnik can catch a Seven, Five or Spade to take down the pot.  The turn and river come 4 7, and Muchnik eliminates Shows in 4th place.

Much of the room is baffled by the calls, and all around play of Muchnik.  It remains hard to tell if Boris has an amazing read on his opponents or if he just really, really loves spade flush draws.
