John Hoang Wins Event #24 ($97,280)

With the elimination of Aleksandr Uskov in 4th place the remaining three players in the $5,000 no-limit hold'em event decided to chop the rest of the prize pool.  John Hoang held the most chips, with Adrian Hanauer coming in second and Steve Paul-Ambrose coming in third in chips.

"Last Time"

John Hoang said, "Last time I'm going to do it," as he pushed his unstacked pile of chips in again.   Aleksander Uskov quickly announced a call with 6 6.  Hoang revealed A K and the race was on.  The flop brought the A K 8 and Hoang hit in a big way on the flop.  After a turn of 5 Uskov was down to two outs.  The Q on the river improved neither player and Hoang doubled up to take the chip lead.    It was not the last time, however, as a few hands later he pushed his now large stack into the now short stack of Uskov, who folded.

New Level

Players returned from their short break to raised stakes.  The ante remained $1,000 but the blinds increased to $4,000-$8,000.

Big Hand For Hanauer

Adrian Hanauer raised to $20,000 and both John Hoang and Aleksander Uskov called.  After a flop of K 9 8 all players checked.  The Q on the turn prompted Hoang to bet $25,000 into the $60,000 pot.  Uskov folded and Hanauer called.  The river brought the J and Hoang bet $45,000 into the $110,000 pot.  Hanauer went into the tank for a moment before raising all-in.  Hoang quickly folded and Hanuer flipped up his J 10 for a king-high straight flush.  Hoang is now below $100,000, while Hanauer has chipped up to around $255,000.

Happy Birthday

Aleksander Uskov , who turned fifty today, went all-in for $72,000.  After thinking for a moment Adrian Hanauer called, saying, "Happy Birthday."  He thought he was donating with K Q, but it turned out that Uskov held K 5.  The flop brought the A 4 2, giving Uskov an inside straight draw.   The turn brought the 5, pairing Uskov for the lead but giving Hanauer the nut spade draw.  The river came the 9, and Uskov doubled up with his pair of fives.

Action Slows

After a number of sizable pots early in four handed play, the action has slowed considerably.   The pots are frequently won preflop or checked down to the river, and it seems that money is just being passed around the table.

Siazable Four Handed Pots

The remaining four are playing with an ante of $1,000 and blinds of $3,000- $6,000.

All four players limped into the pot and the flop brought the 5 3 3.  All checked the flop and the 5 fell on the turn.  Hoang bet $15,000 and Paul-Ambrose called.  The river brought the 9 and Hoang bet $30,000.  Paul-Ambrose again called.  Hoang revealed the 8 5 for fives full, which was good enough for the sizable pot.

Adrian Hanauer won also won sizable pot with a board of K 9 6 K K, holding the 10 10 against Aleksander Uskov's pocket sevens, almost doubling up.

Dane Lomas Eliminated in 5th Place ($22,605)

Under the gun Aleksander Uskov raised to $12,000 and John Hoang called from the small blind.  Dane Lomas pushed from the big blind for $74,000 total. Uskov went into the tank after cutting out the call, then put in the $62,000.  Hoang also seriously  thought about it, but eventually folded.  Lomas said, "I like your hand," as he revealed the A 9.  Uskov turned over the A Q, and after the board came down K 8 2 6 5 Lomas was sent to the rail in 5th place ($22,605).  The remaining four players took a short break as the $500 chips were  colored up.
