Day 4 Recap
The final table of the PokerStars North American Poker Tour main event at the Venetian is set with just eight players still in contention for the $827,648 first-place prize.
A total of 24 players returned on day 4 to determine those spots, and at the outset, it looked like it would be a short day at the tables. In quick succession, we quickly lost notables Christina Lindley (24th), Jason Dewitt (23rd), and Jonathan Aguiar (22nd).
WSOP bracelet winner Blair Hinkle (20th) stumbled out of the gates and was subsequently eliminated after about an hour of play, as was Mark Ketteringham (17th).
As the players continued to hit the rail, it was Sam “KingKobeMVP” Stein (pictured below right) who was doing most of the damage. Stein started off by making a straight with Q-9 to crack Dewitt’s pocket aces, and he never really looked back, pressuring his opponents with big bets and raises to increase his stack well above the rest of the field. He held strong to finish the day with the chip lead.
The online community was well rerpresented throughout the day, with several notables making a deep run. David “DonkCommitted” Miscikowski (15th), Andrew Chen (13th), Steve “MrSmokey1” Billirakis (12th) and Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger (10th) all made impressive showings in the tournament.
The tournament grinded down to a near halt when play reached the nine-handed final table, and it took a few hours before the day came to an end.
The hand that did all the damage came at the expense of Kyle “bluffdeez503” Zartman (ninth), who held top pair against David Paredes and his flopped full house. The hand left Zartman crippled, and he was eliminated shortly thereafter.
Though the final table has many seasoned online professionals in the mix, it’s “Miami” John Cernuto, the grizzled veteran, who has the most work to do from the short stack.
Other notables still in contention include Thomas “GNightMoon” Fuller, Thomas “KingsOfCards” Marchese, and Eric “blizair” Blair.
Here’s a look at the chip counts heading into the final table:
Seat 1 — Daniel Clemente — 1,345,000
