Colorado Sports Betting – Key Takeaways

  • Colorado sports betting is available through state-licensed and offshore sites
  • Cryptocurrencies are the fastest option for payouts
  • Best odds and market coverage is at offshore Colorado sportsbooks
  • Retail sportsbooks operate under partnerships with local casinos

3 of the Top Colorado Sports Betting Sites Reviewed

As you can see from our list above, there are plenty of options for online sports betting in Colorado. But before you dive in and sign up with a site, check out how we fared at three of our favorite CO sportsbooks.

  1. BetWhale – Best Colorado Sportsbook for Live Betting

  • Best For: High-value welcome bonus
  • Crypto Accepted: Yes
  • VIP Program: No
  • Live Betting: Yes
  • Same-Game Parlays: No
  • Full Racebook: Yes

Betwhale sports logo

  • History: BetWhale is a relative newcomer to the sports betting scene launching in 2023. It is licensed and regulated in the Union of Comoros.
  • Odds: BetWhale has above average odds for soccer markets while most major league US sports moneylines are in line with the competition. Live betting odds are the best value with all odds updated in real-time although soccer markets are weirdly slow to update.
  • Sports Covered: If you’re a fan of major league sports and the biggest soccer leagues then you’re in luck as there’s wide market coverage for every event. We’d like to see a few more niche sports, but overall, it’s a good range.
  • Features: Live betting all the way. This is a real slick feature that has odds updated in real-time and making your bets is a breeze. That’s really it for features besides the nice betslip.
  • Promotions: There’s a big old welcome bonus that’s the best deal. But that’s where it ends. You might get an odds boost from time to time but not much else in the way of promos.
  • Banking: We’re big fans of crypto so it’s good to see that this site covers both card payments and crypto for deposits and withdrawals. The only downside is that there are only two crypto coins supported for payouts.
  • Ease of Use: BetWhale certainly has the design aspect nailed down and with it being a new site, usability is pretty awesome too. Everything is well laid out and easy to manage.

Our Verdict

At first glance, BetWhale checks all the boxes with its deep market coverage of all major sports and competitive odds. It also has solid support for traditional and crypto banking.

It’s a bit disappointing that the regular promos are thin on the ground, but with such a big welcome offer, this is hardly surprising. If you can live without endless promos and enjoy live sports betting, then this is a great option.

Pros

  • Best odds for soccer markets
  • Excellent live betting options
  • Fast payout through crypto
  • Easy to use interface

Cons

  • No loyalty program
  • Could have more promos

2. CoinPoker – Crypto-Only Colorado Sportsbook

  • Best For: Crypto betting
  • Crypto Accepted: Yes
  • VIP Program: No
  • Live Betting: Yes
  • Same-Game Parlays: Yes
  • Full Racebook: No

Coinpoker sportsbetting logo

  • History: CoinPoker launched in 2017 as a crypto poker platform, but in 2024 launched its own sportsbook and online casino.
  • Odds: Generally speaking, odds are on a par with the competition when it comes to major league sports. We saw slightly better odds on some esports markets.
  • Sports Covered: CoinPoker is a new Colorado sports betting app and so it’s no surprise that sports coverage is mainly confined to major leagues and esports. We reckon more markets will be added in future.
  • Features: This is one of the only Colorado betting apps on this list with apps for PC, iOS, and Android. The app gives you access to sports, casino, and poker rooms.
  • Promotions: This is the one area that CoinPoker could massively improve. There are no promos at all for sports which is a shame since there are so many for poker.
  • Banking: It’s crypto-only at CoinPoker with support for six coins including its own native CHP token. This means super fast deposits and withdrawals.
  • Ease of Use: Like we mentioned earlier, with this being an app, it’s slightly different to other CO betting sites, but there’s no real learning curve. It’s responsive and easy to use with all sports easily found in the main menu.

Our Verdict

CoinPoker may be new to the industry, but it does a great job of covering major sports with deep markets. Odds are average aside from those esports markets which is good to see.

All we’re waiting for here is a few promos for sports. We’d like to see more action here as there are tons of poker promos so a little attention to the sportsbook would be great. We love that the payouts are processed almost immediately.

Pros

  • Apps for PC, iOS, and Android
  • Good coverage for esports
  • Support for fast crypto payouts
  • Access to poker platform

Cons

  • No promos for sports

3. MyBookie- Colorado Betting Site with High-Value Contests

  • Best For: NFL contests
  • Crypto Accepted: Yes
  • VIP Program: Yes
  • Live Betting: Yes
  • Same-Game Parlays: Yes
  • Full Racebook: Yes

MyBookie sports logo

  • History: MyBookie first launched in 2014 and has been offering markets on major league sports for a decade. It’s licensed in Curacao.
  • Odds: Odds coverage was average across NFL games while marginally better on some NHL markets. Overall, there’s not much difference between this site and our other recommendations.
  • Sports Covered: MyBookie has a good spread of coverage for major league sports here in the USA and Europe’s top leagues. We like that you can even bet on boxing and cricket.
  • Features: Live betting is a solid feature but what we really like here is the addition of a live news feed in the sidebar. This gives you news on upcoming events which is great for making your picks.
  • Promotions: Promos are pretty good with some reload offers and a rebate offer on the racebook. Contests are where the real value can be found with a survivor contest for the NFL being the highlight.
  • Banking: You’re well covered with card payments and Bitcoin. The only options for payouts though are Bitcoin and bank wire which is a little limited.
  • Ease of Use: It’s super easy to use this site as it has a simple layout with the most popular options in tabs on the main menu.

Our Verdict

MyBookie has some great coverage of major sports and we love the Money Bag feature that gives you the biggest moneylines currently available. The news feed on the live betting area is another nice addition that you don’t see everywhere.

Banking could be improved with a few more options for payouts. But we were impressed by the promos that cover reloads and contests.

Pros

  • Great coverage for miche sports
  • Excellent VIP program
  • News feed in betting area
  • Free to enter contests

Cons

  • Some payouts slow to process

Is Sports Betting Legal in Colorado?

The bigger question might be, is gambling legal in Colorado? And the simple answer is a resounding yes. Casinos have been active in the state for many years now while sports betting first launched back on May 1st, 2020.

This followed a referendum held in November 2019 during which residents of the state voted to legalize sports betting. Just six months later legislation was passed and the first legal sportsbooks in Colorado launched through partnerships with local casinos.

How to Choose the Best Colorado Sports Betting Site

You can go right ahead and choose any of the Colorado betting sites mentioned on this page. But if you’re more inclined to do your own research then you can follow these tips—it’s exactly how we choose the best sites.

Safety & Security

So this is a big one. You want to be sure that any betting site in Colorado will have the best security and safety measures in place to protect you and your money. That’s why you should look for sites that are licensed by reputable gambling authorities.

Betting Markets & Odds

You’ll want to see good coverage of sports in general and then deep market coverage for all kinds of wagers—more on that later. The odds should also be comparable or even better than the competition.

Bonuses & Promotions

Don’t get sucked in by the massive welcome offer. This is great for those first wagers, but it’s also good to see some other kind of regular promos like reload offers or contests. You’re going to spend your own cash so you might as well get some freebies with it if you can. Just watch the rollover requirements.

Mobile Compatibility

CoinPoker is the only site we recommend that has a mobile app. So if you’re opting for another site, make sure that it’s accessible on any mobile device. And yes, all of our recommended Colorado betting sites are mobile-friendly.

Live Betting Features

Live betting is an absolute must-have for any Colorado sportsbook. But just having the option isn’t enough. Check to see if scores are updated in real-time as this will impact any live odds and your potential winnings.

Banking Options

The best sports betting sites have banking options that allow you to deposit and withdraw in crypto or dollars. What we really like to see though are short processing times and fast payouts. You want to get your hands on your winnings quickly.

User Experience

This is all down to your own personal preferences. You might prefer big menus and lots of features on display or maybe you like simple and straightforward. Whatever it is you like, just make sure that the site is responsive and easy to use.

Colorado Online Sports Betting Bonuses

We’ve mentioned bonuses for Colorado sports betting online once or twice already, so let’s get into what these sportsbook promos actually look like.

Welcome Bonus

This is always the biggest offer at sportsbooks in Colorado and it’s quite often a deposit match or free bet offer. The idea here is to get you in the door and betting as soon as possible. Just bear in mind that the wagering requirements (rollover) might be quite high on this promo.

Reload Bonus

This is also called a deposit match bonus and gives you the chance to earn free money just by reloading your account. An example of a reload bonus might see your deposit matched by 50% up to $100. That means that if you stick $100 into your account, you get an extra $50 in site credit.

Risk Free Bets

This is a bit like bet insurance where you can make the bet and if it loses, you get your stake returned. The returned stake is always in site credit while this type of offer is often only available for a specific market or sport.

Odds Boosts

Odds boosts are just what you think they are. It’s an offer that boosts your odds. So if you had odds of +100 on the Denver Broncos to win, that could be boosted to +125. That means that you get $25 more on a winning $100 wager.

Cashback Bonuses

We can’t pick winners all the time so this offer gives you a return on your losses over a set period of time. So if you had losses of $100 over a week, you might get 8% of that back. Not bad for picking a loser.

Parlay Insurance

Parlay wagers are tough to nail down as there are multiple bets that all have to be winners. What parlay insurance does is it allows you to get your stake back or cash out at reduced odds if one leg of your parlay crashes and burns.

Contests

This is one for the real sports stats fans. Contests allow you to put your knowledge of stats and form to the test by picking the most winners over a game week or season. The last fan standing is the one that takes home first prize. Most of these contests are free to enter and have massive prize pools.

Loyalty Rewards

These are the VIP and loyalty program rewards that you get for building up all those points. They can be anything from free site credit to cash or even fan experiences.

Wager Types for Online Sports Betting in Colorado

Backing the winner is fun, but there’s so much more to sports betting than that. Here are the most popular wagers you’ll find at all good Colorado online sportsbooks.

Moneyline

The moneyline is the easiest bet to place. Pick a winner of the game and place your bet at the moneyline odds.

All moneylines are given as + for the underdog and – for the favorite. So if the Denver Nuggets are +150 to win this means that you would win $150 for a $100 bet. If they were -200 to win, you would need to wager $200 to win $100.

Point Spread

The point spread introduces a handicap to the game to level the playing field. The favorite will be given a negative handicap while the underdog gets a positive one. This is often the same on both sides. The favorite must win by more than the point spread while the underdog can lose by anything less than the spread.

If the Colorado Avalanche were given a spread of -2.5 against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, they would need to win by 3 goals. The Knight with +2.5 could afford to lose by 2 goals to make the spread.

Totals (Over/Under)

Totals betting is a simple one. You just bet on whether the combined scores of the game will be over or under a totals line set by the sportsbook. The Broncos and Colts might have a totals line of 32.5. You simple wager on whether the total points is over or under that line.

Prop Bets

Also called proposition wagers, this type of bet can be on almost anything that happens during a game. It could be the number of points scored, yards thrown, or rebounds. It can even be a bet on the color of the Gatorade thrown over the coach.

Parlays

We mentioned these earlier. A parlay wager is when you combine multiple bets (and their odds) to make one big wager. All bets, called legs, must win for the parlay to pay out.

A parlay could be a bet on the Broncos, Nuggets, and Avalanche all to win. Or you could even play a same game parlay with a combination of bets on one game.

Live Betting

This is when you place a bet on the game after it has started which is why it’s also called in-play betting. This is a great way to really get involved in the game and you can find great value in markets if you can predict how things might change depending on how the game is going.

Futures

These are the long term wagers that you put on at the start of the season. Of course, you can place a future on the Super Bowl or World Series anytime during the regular season, but you’ll get the best odds early on.

Sports to Bet on at Colorado Online Sportsbooks

Colorado sportsbooks cover practically every sport you can imagine including local teams which we’ll talk about later. But in general terms, here are the sports that are most popular for online sports betting apps in Colorado.

Football

Between the NFL and college football, there are hundreds of games to bet on throughout the calendar year. And as you may have guessed, with the Broncos and Buffaloes in Denver, there’s a lot of action at the best NFL sportsbooks.

There are 272 NFL games including the playoffs and the season finale of the Super Bowl. No prizes for guessing who the most backed team in Colorado is for Super Futures.

Basketball

The NBA is the second most popular sport in terms of viewership and betting. There’s a ton of markets available for all NBA games with totals being one of the most popular forms of betting. Believe it or not, it’s the March Madness tournament that really pulls in the most action at Colorado sportsbooks.

Baseball

There are more than 15 million amateur baseball players around the United States. That’s more than the population of some countries all looking to hit home runs. So it’s little surprise that the MLB pulls in a lot of wagers.

Interestingly, college baseball is nowhere near as popular as football or basketball. In fact the majority of bets for America’s favorite pastime are all on the MLB and even some foreign leagues in Japan and Korea.

Hockey

If you’re looking for a lot of markets and we mean a LOT, then it’s hard to look past the NHL. With over 1,300 games in a season, you have endless opportunities to bet. When it comes to bet types, the NHL is a hotbed of props, totals, and spreads markets.

Soccer

The MLS is finally getting the love it deserves and that’s mostly down to the arrival of Messi and a few other major stars. Weirdly though, viewing figures for the 2024 MLS Cup final was down by 50% on 2023. Possibly because a certain Argentine player didn’t make the final. Aside from the MLS, Colorado sportsbooks also cover the main European leagues and competitions as well as the Copa Libertadores in South America making them solid choices for online soccer betting.

Esports

Esports is a rapidly growing betting market with both state-licensed and offshore sportsbooks offering odds on the biggest events. There’s deeper coverage offshore with some of the best esports betting sites covering a massive range of leagues and events. The biggest of those events is the League of Legends 2023 World Championship which pulled in 6.4 million viewers during peak hours.

Horse Racing

Horse racing has been available in Colorado since 1950 when pari-mutuel wagering was first legalized. There is no one racetrack in the state, Arapahoe Park. Races at this track run from May to August. The biggest races of the year are the Mile High Futurity and the Mile High Derby which have purses of over $100k each.

Daily Fantasy Sports

Daily Fantasy Sports, or DFS, is legal and regulated in the state of Colorado. Anyone aged 18 or older can take part in contests. The state has one of the busiest DFS markets with more than 30 licensed fantasy sports operators.

Other Sports & Markets

There are plenty of other options for betting that include niche sports like Lacrosse or even Aussie Rules football. But outside of sports there are also political, financial, and entertainment betting markets. If you want to bet on the presidency though, you’ll probably be limited to offshore sites as locally-based sportsbooks don’t cover political betting.

Local Teams for Sports Betting in Colorado

There are five pro sports teams that you can bet on in the state of Colorado as well as college sports teams too.

Colorado Rockies

Denver’s only Major League Baseball team, the Colorado Rockies, play their home games at Coors Field in Denver. Anyone who knows their baseball will know that the Rockies have never won a World Series or a division title. So futures might not be the ideal wager for this team.

Denver Broncos

Empower Field at Mile High is the home of the Denver Broncos of the NFL. The team has three Super Bowl victories, including their unforgettable Super Bowl 50 win led by quarterback Peyton Manning. The Broncos are still celebrated for their golden era with Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who remains a beloved figure in Denver. The team’s last Super Bowl win came in 2016.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets of the NBA play at Ball Arena in downtown Denver. The team has been around since 1974 but won its first conference and NBA Championship titles in 2023. There’s a lot of hope that they can follow this up with another championship in the coming seasons.

Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche, known as the “Avs” also calls Ball Arena home. Known for their formidable roster and consistent presence in the NHL standings, the Avalanche are three-time Stanley Cup winners and have 12 division titles.

Colorado Rapids

Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, which opened in 2007. The team has an international roster featuring players from France, England, Denmark, Africa, Uruguay, mixed with local talent. The Rapids won their only trophy to date in 2010, when they lifted the MLS Cup.

College Teams

There are plenty of college teams in the state but the most followed and recognizable has to be the Colorado Buffaloes Football program from the University of Colorado. They play in the PAC-12 Conference and have one National Championship to their name.

The Colorado College Tigers men’s ice hockey team have gone one better and have two NCAA tournament championships. That said, they did come way back in 1950 and 1957.

Payment Options for Colorado Sportsbooks

So if you’re going to place any bets in Colorado, you’ll need some cash in your account. Getting it in there is pretty straightforward, but you don’t have quite as many options for payouts. Here are the most common banking options to look out for.

Cryptocurrency

CO online sports betting sites based offshore give you the option to bank using crypto. This is a super secure and fast option for both deposits and withdrawals. Sure, there may be a slight learning curve, but with cheap transactions and fast payouts, it’s worth the effort.

Crypto also allows you more privacy as many sites that support it are no KYC betting sites that don’t require your info.

Credit & Debit Cards

The trusted bank card is by far and away the most popular payment option at Colorado betting sites. But only for deposits. There are very few sites that will pay out to debit or credit cards and those that do will often charge fees.

Online Banking

Safe, secure, and fast—what’s not to like? Online banking is convenient and relatively cheap and since it’s your back handling it, you’ve got peace of mind. The only real drawback is that payouts can take a few days to process.

eWallets

These are the PayPals and Skrills of the banking world and yes, they are convenient. They are also fast and cheap too for the most part. But with the rise of crypto, a lot of Colorado betting apps and sites are no longer accepting eWallets.

How Does Colorado Online Sports Betting Compare to Neighboring States?

Colorado is certainly not unique in western states when it comes to sports betting. Nebraska, Wyoming, and Kansas all have legal sports betting for both retail and online sportsbooks while South Dakota is limited to retail sports betting.

Arizona sports betting sites are possibly the closest in terms of options to Colorado as you have a dozen or so state-licensed options alongside offshore sportsbooks.

Texas, not quite a neighbor, but close enough, has a different setup. Texas sportsbooks are actually limited to offshores as there has been no legislation passed for state-licensed sports betting.

Retail CO Sports Betting Shops

Retail sports betting in Colorado has been available since May 1st, 2020. All sportsbooks must be partnered with an existing casino.

Final Thoughts on the Best Colorado Sportsbooks

Sports betting in Colorado is thriving and there’s a seemingly endless list of options both locally based and offshore. But as you may have figured out from the guide above, we’re certainly leaning more towards the latter.

That’s because offshore sportsbooks like BetWhale have better value odds and deeper market coverage than state-licensed sites. They also cover things like politics and entertainment so it’s not just all about sports.
