Here, we’ve reviewed four of our favorite VA Sportsbooks to give you the lowdown on what’s currently available in terms of odds, markets, and those all-important promos.
BetOnline has a good reputation when it comes to its sports variety and there’s a large selection of professional, college, and international events. These include football betting, basketball, ice hockey, motor racing, UFC betting, and more. There are lots of markets available on each of the nearly 30 sports you can wager on.
Odds are pretty competitive with moneylines released early and ahead of many of its competitors. You also get a good choice of promos with some contests that have big prize pools.
BetOnline also has a solid range of payment options, so you’re sorted if you use cryptocurrencies, wire transfer, money order, and debit cards. Many of these are quite common, but what sets BetOnline apart is that it offers lots of crypto betting options. And yes, some of those offer instant payouts.
Pros
Cons
With its large selection of sports and markets to bet on BetOnline covers all the bases. The live betting section lets it down slightly and you can’t watch the events live either.
But, overall BetOnline offers a great betting experience with excellent customer service and fast payouts via crypto.
BetWhale’s welcome offer makes a splash – it’s one of the best promotions you’re likely to find. It’s got a reasonable wagering requirement of just 10x which beats most other sign offers.
There’s a decent selection of sports and markets to bet on and I found the odds to be slightly better than industry averages. There’s a fantastic esports section too if you like competitive gaming.
The in-play betting section is very good and you can watch some events live. While I didn’t find many events to watch, the live sports offering is definitely better than many other sites.
There aren’t a lot of banking options but there is a good mix between traditional options like Visa and Mastercard, a few eWallets, as well as some cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.
Pros
Cons
BetWhale doesn’t have many faults and I genuinely struggled to list cons for this VA sportsbook. It’s a well-rounded site with a good live betting section and excellent esports coverage.
Bovada has around 20 different sports to bet on. I was particularly happy with the NBA section as there were lots of markets to bet on, as well as quite a few enhanced odds on games and futures. The odds for most sports were competitive and on par with other Virginia sports betting sites.
The same can be said for the promotions available. These include deposit match offers and those odds boosts mentioned earlier. Some promos actually offer more credit if you use crypto.
There are six crypto coins accepted and the site supports fast payouts with all of these. My biggest grumble with Bovada’s banking was that I couldn’t deposit via an eWallet.
If you’re new to Bovada the sign-up process is simple and its customer service is available to answer queries via phone, email or live chat, 24/7. I even came across its agents responding to queries on a few forums which shows a great effort to provide customer care.
Pros
Cons
Bovada has a very good reputation and my experience tells me this is well deserved. Average odds and lots of markets for all sports. But like I said, customer service is where this site really excels.
The BetNow platform is simple and easy to use, with a heavy focus on making placing a bet as straightforward as possible. You could argue in doing this the developers have forgotten to add a unique design to the website, but apart from minor lag issues, things went smoothly.
You can place bets on all major sports throughout the US and they have a fantastic selection of NCAA markets too. I found the odds to be slightly better than industry averages.
If you’re new to BetNow it has a few promotions running and the best thing is you’re able to choose the bonus that fits you.
The bonus wagering requirements are on par with many other VA sportsbooks, and sometimes better. But where it really stands out is when it comes to contests. There are lots of free-to-enter contests across multiple sports all with big prize pools.
There isn’t a wide selection of banking methods you can use, but it does support fast payouts via Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.
Pros
Cons
If you’re new to the VA sports betting scene, BetNow is a great place to start. It’s got a simple user interface, better than average odds, and those contests with big prize pools. You can’t ask for much more than that.
We put the best Virginia betting sites side-by-side so you can clearly see how each sportsbook compares.

Yes, it most certainly is legal. Virginia is the tenth highest-grossing state in terms of total handle after legalizing sports betting in January 2021.
When compared to other states, Virginia’s overall handle is about average. Virginia permits both DFS platforms and esports betting, in contrast to several other states.
There are also no restrictions on accessing offshore VA sports betting sites.
Virginia’s sports betting regulations state that you must be at least 21 years old. But this only applies to state-licensed sportsbooks in Virginia. If you’re betting with an offshore site the legal age is 18 and over.
There are various VA sportsbook promos that you can take advantage of. In this section, we’ll explain some of the key bonuses and how to use them.
Welcome bonuses are usually the most competitive Virginia promos, as these can make a sportsbook standout. These bonuses come in various forms from matched deposit bonuses through to free sports bets.
You can then use these to try out the many different bets available from the bookmaker.
To qualify, in most instances all you have to do is register and make a deposit. Please note, most bonuses come with terms and conditions, such as wagering requirements, that you need to fulfill before you can withdraw any winnings.
A free bet is exactly that! You can place a free bet of a predetermined amount, e.g. $20, on a sporting event. Some free bets have to be used on a specific event or market, such as an NFL Bet Builder bet, and many have minimum odds, while others can be used on any sport.
If your bet wins, most sportsbooks only return your winnings and not your stake.
A bet boost is an incentive to bet on certain markets and it gives you the chance to win more than usual. I think boosts can be one of the most interesting and rewarding VA sportsbook promos.
For example, you might want to bet on the Bruins to beat the Predators in the NHL. Ordinarily the odds are +100 for Boston to win. However, the sportsbook may have boosted the odds to +150.
Bet boosts are often offered on specific events, but occasionally you can use them on any bet you choose.
A crypto promo is a form of deposit bonus which is specifically aimed at those wanting to deposit via cryptocurrency. An example of this may be where you make a deposit of 0.0021 BTC (currently the equivalent of $200) and the sportsbook gives you an additional $200 to use.
These can sometimes be broken down into several bets (4 x $50) or they can also be used as you choose.
Virginia is a proud sporting state with many famous teams and players either playing there, training there or that were born there.
Here I’ll look at some of the most prominent names, who you might want to throw your support behind and get rewarded too.
The college men’s basketball team that represents Virginia Commonwealth University are the VCU Rams.
In the 2012–13 season, the Rams became a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The VCU basketball program was rated the 40th most valued in the nation in 2017 and the team’s march to the Final Four of the 2011 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament is its greatest achievement.
The Hokies play 22 varsity sports in the Division I Atlantic Coast Conference of the NCAA.
Some 22 national titles have been won by Virginia Tech athletes in swimming, wrestling, and various track and field competitions.
VA Tech football is renowned and the Hokies have participated in 33 bowl games, including the 2000 BCS National Championship game, and they have won more than 700 games since 1892.
The Virginia Cavaliers (aka UVA or Virginia) athletics program, which includes basketball, football, and tennis, led the country in overall athletic excellence in 2015 and 2019, winning the Capital One Cup on each occasion. You can find basketball, football, and tennis betting at all the offshore sportsbooks recommended on this page.
The Cavaliers’ athletics program consistently ranks in the top five in the country. The Washington Wizards’ Malcolm Brogdon is one of the Cavaliers’ most famous representatives.
Okay, so the Commanders aren’t technically from Virginia, however, they do train there. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Washington was among the elite in the NFL. It’s been a barren run since then for the men from the capital state, but there does appear to be a glimmer of hope that the darker days are coming to an end.
As per the Commanders above, the Capitals also train in Virginia. Despite claiming 13 divisional NHL titles the Capitals have only won the Stanley Cup once (2017-2018).
It is currently one of the best teams in the Metropolitan division and everyone involved will be hopeful of adding more silverware to the collection in the near future.
Football is the biggest sport in Virginia by a long way. Here are my top three Super Bowl sportsbooks.
Whether you want to bet on Super Bowl game predictions or the Virginia Tech Hokies to win their next game, BetWhale often offers the most generous odds.
They haven’t got the largest selection of markets but if you’re looking to place a futures bet on this year’s Super Bowl winner, BetWhale should be your go to place.
Many people have different opinions and Super Bowl game predictions and like to bet on it in various ways. Some traditionalists like to pick a team to bet on before the season starts and watch their bet unfold throughout the season. Others like to bet on who will be the Super Bowl MVP.
For many, contests are the way to go and that’s where BetOnline excels. Not only do they offer a selection of contests, they also offer the best prizes too.
While we all want the best Super Bowl odds, there’s no point using a sportsbook if they don’t offer the markets you want to bet on. Bovada is easily one of the biggest NFL betting sites with a massive range of markets, and their Super Bowl coverage is hard to match.
Like most states in the US, Virginia has had its ups and downs when it comes to sports betting. Here’s a brief timeline of the most significant events in Virginia sportsbooks’ recent history.
Since April 2020, sports betting has been permitted in Virginia. Up to 16 sportsbooks were once operating in the State. But the number shrank to 12 legal sportsbooks in 2024. In 2025, state legislators are due to review the state’s sports betting regulations.
This is why we recommend offshore VA sportsbooks. No matter what rules or law changes come into effect over the next year, you’ll always be able to place bets at our recommended VA sportsbooks.
Yes, Virginia legalized sports betting in April 2020, and this came into effect in January 2021. Virginia has become one of the fastest-growing states in terms of sports betting turnover since it was legalized.
Every online sportsbook in Virginia uses geolocation technology to verify your location in the state. Although you can wager without being a native of Virginia, you’ll need to activate location services to verify your address. This is one of the benefits of offshore sportsbooks as this element is not required.
You can quickly find out the value of your parlay bet by entering each of your picks into a free parlay calculator. You can find these free calculators on some sportsbooks or sports betting news outlets.
The legal sports betting age in every state is 21, with the exception of the four that operate locally-controlled sportsbooks that accept bettors of 18 years old and over. Only state-regulated sportsbooks are subject to that age restriction; offshore sites like Bovada are not.
Despite being home to the Washington Commanders’ training facility, Virginia is the most populated state in the US without a major professional sports league team.
