In the wake of the horrible events that transpired on Sept. 11, I announced online in my "Barry on the Road" column that Card Player would be raising money from members of the poker community to be sent to the American Red Cross relief effort, and it's been great to see that our community as a whole has responded beautifully to this urgent cause.

As so often happens, it is only in our darkest hour that many of us shine the brightest. The call to arms (or checkbooks, as the case may be) did not go unheralded, and there was an overwhelming sense of urgency that pervaded the poker world.

I am pleased to announce that the poker community has raised a significant amount of money thus far ($15,987, to be exact), and more is still coming in.

In addition to all of those at the Four Queens Poker Classic who gave, PartyPoker.com has announced that it will be donating $20 from every satellite for the PartyPoker Million tournament!

A very special thanks goes to John Juanda, a fabulous young man as well as a great poker player, who donated $3,000.

A full listing of donors can be found on page 71. Meanwhile, I urge all of you to continue to give, whether it is $5 or $5,000.

Thank you.diamonds
