The first annual Ladbrokes poker cruise – High Stakes on the High Seas – set sail from Venice on Oct. 10 for a seven-day trip around the Mediterranean. The 209-runner tournament was excellent, and in the end, it was a European old-timer, Eric "Lowball" Dalby, who crushed the competition to win the title along with $250,000. There was plenty of poker, but the real fun was "the crack." Players and their guests took advantage of the sun and spray while visiting exotic destinations such as Istanbul, Kataklon, and Dubrovnik. The party continued on late every night, with the likes of the Devilfish playing the piano until dawn and the crush at the bar backing up claims that it was a great cruise, European style.
