The $50,000 super high roller event at the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown drew a field of 28 entries. German poker pro Dietrich Fast came out on top, striking a heads-up deal with Adrian Mateos Diaz that saw him secure the title and a payday of $483,693.
Fast first made his presence felt on the live tournament circuit in 2016, when he took down the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic main event for $1,000,800. This latest win in Florida was his second title of the year, having taken down a $25,000 high roller at the LAPC in February for $233,860.
Fast had a tough final table to deal with. The top five finishers, who all made the money in this event, had combined live tournament earnings of more than $40 million dollars heading into this tournament.
Here are the five biggest hands that propelled Fast to the win.
Tournament: SHRP Showdown Super High Roller
Buy-In: $50,000

The Action
With just 13 players remaining, David Cohen limped in from under the gun, Dietrich Fast completed from the small blind and Erik Seidel checked his option. The flop fell 9 9 2and everyone checked. The turn was the 3 and Fast bet 14,000. Seidel called and Cohen folded. The river was the 4 and Fast bet 50,000. Seidel went into the tank for a couple of minutes before throwing in the call and Fast turned over 9 8for trip nines. Seidel mucked, losing nearly half of his stack, while Fast climbed over 100 big blinds.
The Action
Still sitting with 13 players left, David Cohen managed to get it all in on a flop of K Q 5 against Dietrich Fast. Cohen held K Q for top two pair, but Fast had him drawing to two outs with a set of queens. According to the Card Player Poker Odds Calculator, Cohen had just an 8 percent chance at doubling up. The turn and river fell J 4 and Cohen was eliminated in 13th place, out of the money. The pot was enough to give Fast the temporary chip lead.
The Action
With just six players remaining, only five of which would make the money, Adrian Mateos raised to 18,000 from the cutoff. Jason Koon then three-bet to 56,000 on the button. In the big blind, Dietrich Fast then moved all-in. Mateos quickly folded, but Koon had a tough decision. He had 655,000 in chips behind, but tablemate Erik Seidel had just a 30,000 short stack in front of him. After several minutes, he eventually flashed A K to the table and mucked, letting Fast pass the seven-figure mark. Seidel was eliminated by Fast just two hands later.
The Action
Dietrich Fast opened for 30,000 and David Peters moved all in behind him on the button for his last 264,000. The blinds folded and Fast called with K Q. Peters showed pocket sixes and needed to win the race to double up. Unfortunately for the 2016 Card Player Player of the Year, the flop was Q 5 3, leaving him with two outs. The 8 on the turn and the 10 on the river weren’t any help and he was sent to the rail in fourth place, earning $151,844.
The Action
With three players left, Rainer Kempe and Dietrich Fast saw a flop of J 9 9 out of the blinds. Kempe bet 19,000 and Fast raised to 55,000. Kempe called and the turn was the 5. Kempe checked and Fast bet 120,000. Kempe called and the river was the 6. Kempe checked once again, and Fast bet enough to put Kempe all in. Kempe thought it over for nearly five minutes before calling with A J for top pair, only to be shown 10 9 for trips. Kempe pocketed $220,864 for his third-place showing, while Fast took a 2:1 chip lead into his heads-up match with Adrian Mateos Diaz. The two players quickly made a deal with Fast declared the winner.
