Like fine wine, some poker players just get better with age. Three such players made major additions to their incredible tournament resumes in recent weeks, and in the process, they helped cement their spot at the top of this leaderboard: poker’s all-time money list for players 40 years and older.
Erik Seidel won his ninth World Series of Poker bracelet on Aug. 16, defeating a sizable field in a $10,000 buy-in event online to add $977,842 to his career total. The 61-year-old Poker Hall of Fame member now has $38,963,859 in career earnings, putting him in second place on this top-ten list behind only 47-year-old Daniel Negreanu ($42,454,285). Seidel is fourth on the overall all-time money list.
Poker Central founder Cary Katz finished third in a $50,000 buy-in event at the Super High Roller Bowl Europe in early September. The $208,000 he earned brought the 51-year-old’s lifetime earnings to $33,287,080, keeping him in the top 10 overall.
44-year-old Hall of Famer Phil Ivey added over $950,000 to his lifetime tournament earnings with a pair of big scores at the SHRB Europe. The ten-time bracelet winner took down the $25,000 buy-in kickoff short deck event for $408,000. Three days later he finished as the runner-up in a $50,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event, adding another $546,000. The two big paydays increased Ivey’s career total to $31,777,593.
The youngest player among the top 10 is five-time bracelet winner Michael Mizrachi at 40 years and 8 months old ($17,080,387). The eldest of these distinguished elder statesmen is high-stakes tournament regular Richard Yong ($14,280,612) at 63 years and 8 months of age.
