Daniel Negreanu’s historic win in this year’s Poker Players Championship didn’t just break a decade-long bracelet dry spell to grow his career count to seven. The $1,178,703 top prize also saw him claim the top spot on the World Series of Poker’s all-time money list with over $22.5 million in total earnings across 258 cashes in bracelet events.
Five of Negreanu’s 11 seven-figure cashes recorded so far have come in WSOP tournaments, with his largest-ever payday being the nearly $8.3 million he earned as the runner-up in the 2014 Big One For One Drop million-dollar buy-in event.
Negreanu now sits just over $598,000 ahead of second-ranked Antonio Esfandiari, who won the inaugural Big One in 2012 for a staggering $18,346,673. That one win accounts for nearly 84 percent of Esfandiari’s $21.9 million in WSOP earnings. The three-time bracelet winner’s second-largest score came a year later when he finished fourth in the $111,111 One Drop High Roller for another $1,433,438, however, he hasn’t had a cash at the series since 2019.
Rounding out the top three is none other than Phil Hellmuth. The 17-time bracelet winner and 1989 main event champion has cashed for nearly $18 million at the series, with nine of his 10 largest paydays coming in WSOP tournaments. While he has three seven-figure scores in bracelet events, only one came in a win, which was the $1,333,841 he earned as the champion of the 2012 WSOP Europe main event.
Things are tightly packed at the tail end of the top 10 on this prestigious leaderboard, with just $164,456 separating eighth-ranked Fedor Holz from his fellow German Koray Aldemir who sits in tenth place, with 2023 main event champ Dan Weinman in between them. Of course, the list could see a big shake up depending on the outcome of the 2024 main event, which you can read about next issue. ♠
