The pot-limit Omaha tournament scene has been exploding recently, with more and larger events being offered each year, including two PLO-focused high roller series on the PokerGO Tour. This leaderboard takes a look at the 10 biggest first-place prizes awarded in PLO events, all of which have been paid out in the last six years. The top five payouts all exceed $2 million and have all come since the start of 2023.
The 2023 World Series of Poker $50,000 PLO event remains the tournament to beat, with eventual champion Jesse Lonis earning $2.3 million and his second bracelet after coming out on top. Lonis beat out a jaw-dropping field of 200 that put up the massive sum required to enter.
The next two events on the board are the 2023 and 2024 runnings of the $25,000 buy-in PLO event at the series. Last year Ka Kwan Lau emerged victorious with the hardware and $2,294,756. The 449-entry field resulted in a $10.5 million prize pool. That is only topped on this list by the nearly $11.2 million prize pool for the 2024 running, which attracted 476 entries. David Eldridge took home his second bracelet and $2,246,728, which was a slightly lower payout than Lau’s due to a change to the WSOP’s payout formula.
Daniel Perkusic took down this year’s WSOP $50,000 PLO high roller, besting a field of 131 to earn $2.1 million. The only non-WSOP tournament in the top five was the $100,000 buy-in held at this year’s Triton Poker Montenegro festival. Christopher Frank bested 83 entries to walk away with $2,008,910.
The 2024 Super High Roller Bowl Pot-Limit Omaha event, won by Seth Davies for $1.5 million (see pg. 26), is seventh on this rapidly evolving list. ♠
