Adrian Mateos is not only a two-time POY award winner (see pg. 24), the 30-year-old pro is also the runaway leader on his home nation of Spain’s all-time money list, with a lead of nearly $32.9 over second-ranked Sergio Aido.

Aido is one of five Spanish players with earnings stretching into the eight figures, having accumulated more than $21.6 million in his career. His largest payday was secured last year when he took down the $50,000 high roller at the World Series of Poker for $2 million and his first bracelet.

Spain is tied with Sweden for 12th place on the bracelets by country leaderboard with 19, with Mateos’ four being the highest individual total. Aido has five seven-figure scores in his career, with three coming in 2024. He finished in 25th place in the final POY standings for the year.

Juan Pardo has not yet captured a bracelet, but he does have more than $13.4 million in career cashes to his name. Like Aido, Pardo managed his top score in 2024. He finished second in the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl, earning $1,900,000 for his efforts. This was his second seven-figure cash, having banked $1,125,385 for a win in the €50,000 high roller on home soil at the 2019 European Poker Tour Barcelona festival.

Poker Hall of Famer Carlos Mortensen joins Mateos as Spain’s only other multi-time bracelet winner with two triumphs at the series, including his win in the 2001 WSOP main event for $1,500,000. Mortensen’s largest payday came when he took down the $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Championship in 2007, besting a field of 639 entries to earn $3,970,415. With more than $11.9 million, Mortensen is likely to remain inside the top 10 on Spain’s earnings leaderboard for some time to come, despite not having recorded a live cash since 2017.

Rounding out the top five is Sergi Reixach with over $11.5 million in career cashes. He secured his marquee triumph in 2019, taking down the €100,000 super high roller at EPT Barcelona for more than $2 million. ♠
