Card Players Brought Together for Poker Art LoversExclusive Exhibition of Paul Cézanne's Famous Card Playing Paintings in London |
|
Many who love poker will have somehow, somewhere along the way heard of or seen French artist Paul Cézanne’s Card Players. They are very powerful post-impressionist paintings representing card players heavily focused on the game at hand. However the series of paintings have never been brought together. Until now.
According to The Guardian, from today until Jan. 16, 2011, three of the five paintings will be on show, brought in from museums in New York and Paris to join the Courtauld work, as part of an exhibition of Cézanne’s art at the Courtauld Gallery in London.
Two paintings of the series will not be on show as one is in a private collection and throughout 50 years has not been exhibited, and the other is held by the Barnes Foundation in Pennsylvania which, its founder ruled, cannot lend.
