WSOP Circuit -- Day 1 of Hammond Regional ChampionshipKyle Julius Leads Remaining 114 Players |
|
The World Series of Poker Circuit followed up its record breaking $1,500 main event with an impressive turnout in the $10,000 Regional Championship.
A total of 226 players entered the tournament in Hammond, Indiana, creating a total prize pool of $2,101,800. Just under three tables will make the money, but the remaining 114 players all undoubtedly have their eyes set on the $525,449 that goes to the winner.
At the end of day 1, the far and away chip leader is Ryan Julius, who caught the good end of a cooler to pick up the majority of his stack. Julius picked up pocket aces against another big stack who held pocket kings. Both players flopped a set, but Julius held to win the massive pot. He ended the day with 265,000, which is more than four times the average stack.
Other notables near the top included Bernard Lee, Shannon Shorr, Vanessa Selbst and Jonathan Tamayo. Tamayo was also the recipient of some good fortune, when his pocket aces bested another player’s pocket aces when the board brought four clubs. He will start day 2 in second place with 186,300.
Main event winner Kurt Jewell is still alive, as are notables such as Chad Brown, David Sands, Brandon Adams, Matt Stout, David Baker and Jason Mercier.
Mercier had an interesting day, coming face to face with someone who most agreed could pass for his twin. Check out the video from Card Player TV below.
Be sure to check back on Tuesday for more Regional Championship coverage.
