World Poker Tour -- World Poker Finals Day 3The Field Inches toward the Money on Day 3 at Foxwoods |
|
With only 69 players remaining when day 3 began at the 2010 World Poker Tour World Poker Finals $10,000 no-limit hold’em main event, it was a safe assumption that the money bubble (final 25 players get paid) would burst by the end of play tonight. Thanks to a slow pace of play that made the tournament feel like it was a few spots away from the money bubble all day there were still 28 players when the final bell tolled after five levels of poker.
The chip leader at the end of play tonight was Chris Hunichen, who held 714,000. Taking the second spot was Josh Arieh with 548,500, and Ben Klier rounds out the top three with 465,500. Other big names still in the hunt include Keven Stammen, Mohsin Charania, Jason Mercier, Gavin Smith, Hoyt Corkins, Bryan Piccioli, Ronald Lee, and Kyle Bowker.
This tournament can still factor into the Card Player Player of the Year, with two top contenders still in action here in Connecticut. Thomas Marchese (5,366 points) ended the night with 249,000, Sorel Mizzi (4,037 points) finished with 238,500, and Mike Beasley (3,320 points) finished with 120,000. Those players are second and third respectively in the current POY standings. Current POY leader Dwyte Pilgrim holds 5,576 points and although Mizzi would still be 99 points behind Pilgrim if he wins the event, Marchese can overtake Pilgrim with an eighth-place finish. Beasley can jump to third place in the standings with a win.
Here are the POY points up for grabs in this event:
1: 1,440 points
2: 1,200 points
3: 960 points
4: 720 points
5: 600 points
