For the past two weeks Harveys Lake Tahoe has been home to the World Series of Poker Circuit.
Of the 33 circuit events that took place, none were bigger than the $1,600 buy-in main event that kicked off on Sunday. A prize pool of $354,240 was created by the 246 entrants, with $86,789 going to the winner.
On the third day of play, Michael Taylor arrived at the final table as the chip leader but ultimately fell in third place, leaving two of the more experienced players – Stanley Quinn and John McNeilly – heads up for the tournament title.
A very short heads-up battle ended when Quinn bet 200,000 on a flop of 863 and McNeilly raised all in. Quinn made the call and showed JJ to give him the edge over McNeilly’s 87. The turn was the 5, and the K fell on the river to give Quinn the win, busting McNeilly in second place.
Quinn’s first-place finish earned him $86,789 and the WSOP circuit championship ring. McNeilly improved upon his ninth-place finish in this same event last year by finishing runner-up this year and earning $53,625.
