With the arrival of 2011, Card Player caught up with some of the big names on the international poker circuit to find out how their 2010 went and what they hope for in the New Year.

Full Tilt Poker pro James Akenhead has had better years in poker, but is optimistic about the one ahead.

Rebecca McAdam: How was your 2010?

James Akenhead: 2010 was nowhere as good as 2009, however I managed to walk away from the WSOP in profit, and have had a few results here and there. I have also had the chance to travel to loads of great places, meet new people, and enjoy my life.

RM: Poker-wise, was it an up or down year?

JA: I managed to finish the year in profit.

RM: What was your best moment of the year?

JA: The best moment, I think, although this is hard, is when I completed on my new house. That was very exciting and I am settling in well now. There were many other highlights as well.

RM: Worst moment of the year?

JA: The worst moment of the year was waking up to go to San Remo/Monte Carlo only to hear on the news that there was a volcanic dust cloud engulfing London. Really?

RM: Best hand of 2010?

JA: There was a hand I played on the Late Night Poker final against Matt Perrins that I liked, when we both had J-T on a bricked flop, that was my favourite.

RM: Was there anything major you learned about your game this year?

JA: I learned this year that when I grow up I want to be as good as Praz [Bansi].

RM: Any New Year’s Resolutions?

JA: To put more hours in online and to go to the gym more often!

RM: What are your goals for the year?

JA: I want to aim to rake more than $12,000 every month online and obviously win a WSOP bracelet. I would also like to take down an FTOPS event.

RM: What are you looking forward to the most?

JA: I’m looking forward to the New Year as I am spending it in Hawaii. After, we are stopping over on Fiji for a week, and then heading to Melbourne for the Aussie Millions. This is going to be the best trip ever!

RM: Have you any predictions for 2011?

JA: I predict that 2011 is going to be an even better year for UK players, not only at the WSOP but all around the world. We proved what we can do in 2010, this year will be even better.
