With Isildur1 unveiled and a champion crowned in the Super High Roller all attention was finally turned towards the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure main event, which was gunning to increase its field size for the seventh consecutive year.
After registration had closed and all the buy-ins had been added up, the field of 1,560 players had generated a total prize pool of $15,132,000, $2.3 million of which will be reserved for the winner.
The day 1B field sat down at noon for nine levels of action and by the time the players had bagged up for the evening, about 380 of the 913 who started had survived. They will combine with the remaining day 1a players to form the field for day 2, which resumes Monday at noon.
Notables who ended the day near the top of the chip counts included Daniel Alei, Chris Moneymaker, Brandon Steven, Praz Bansi, Tommy Vedes and Dwyte Pilgrim. The aforementioned Viktor Blom also had a great day, using his aggressive image to get maximum value and vault up the leaderboard.
One player who had a particularly good day was former Card Player Online Player of the Year contender Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek. The Canadian pro lived up to his online moniker by flopping a set of fives three times.
