2011 Aussie Millions Kicks Off Down Under Thursday

Wide Range of Events To Be Played at Melbourne's Crown Casino

Aussie Millions 2010 - Photo courtesy of Aussie MillionsThe biggest poker event south of the equator is back. The prestigious Aussie Millions kicks off down under Thursday at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. The schedule runs from January 13-31, with 20 events taking to the felt.

The $10,600 AUD no-limit hold’em main event will once again hold the attention of the poker world when it begins on Jan. 23. An impressive field of 746 took part in the 2010 main event, with Australia’s own Tyron Krost being crowned champion and earning $2 million AUD. The field is expected to be even larger this year, and the winner will be decided on Jan. 29.

High-stakes events on the schedule include the $100,000 Challenge that starts on Jan. 22, as well as the Aussie Millions high stakes cash game featuring a $200,000 minimum buy-in on Jan. 24. In 2010, the $100,000 Challenge drew in 24 players for a prize pool of $2.4 million, and Dan Shak beat Phil Ivey heads up to earn $1.2 million. Other large buy-in events this year include the $10,500 Australia no-limit hold’em heads-up championship and a $10,500 eight-game mixed event.

Card Player’s live coverage from the Aussie Millions will begin on Jan. 22 with the $100,000 Challenge and it will run through the conclusion of the main event.
