Thomas Marchese on the cover of the latest Card Player magazine.CardPlayer.com is loaded with news, videos, strategy, and other material special to the website, but don’t forget that you can also read Card Player magazine’s content online.

Simply click on the “Magazine” link on the left side of the homepage, and you’ll be able to check out recent issues, which include in-depth features on poker’s breakout stars, columns from some of the game’s brightest minds, and even more poker strategy from the pros themselves.

The latest issue takes a closer look at 2010 Card Player Player of the Year Thomas Marchese, who shares the story of his conservative upbringing, his decision to quit school for poker, and how his cash game experience led to his incredible year of tournament success in 2010.

“I had the money to play whatever limits I wanted, but, obviously, the lineups at the top aren’t really ideal, and I wasn’t a fan of burning money. That’s when I switched to tournaments. It was a new frontier, of sorts, something else that I could try to conquer,” he says.

What resulted was 11 final tables, two tournament titles and over $2 million in tournament winnings.

“The cash-game background is really huge,” he says. “I can honestly say that I play day 1 better than the majority of the pros out there.”

At 23, Marchese discusses what it means to him to be the youngest ever Card Player Player of the Year.

“The young guys are taking over, and I feel good that I’m a good representation of that.”

The latest issue also features Brian Hastings discussing what it’s like to go heads-up against ‘Isildur1’ in pot-limit Omaha. Card Player also profiles former chess grandmaster turned poker pro Jeff Sarwer, exploring his unique past and his bright future.
