2008 WSOP Champion Peter Eastgate has returned to poker, and he's still alive going into Day 2 at EPT Copenhagen. The PokerStars European Poker Tour has once again made its way to Copenhagen, Denmark, attracting the usual field of pros and amateurs to its DKK 37,250 buy-in main event.

Day 1A began Monday with 214 players entering. Another 235 players registered to play on Day 1B, pushing the total field to 449 players —- up from last season’s total of 423 players. The field created a prize pool of DKK 15,086,400 (approx. €2,023,496). The top 64 players will earn at least DKK 55,000, and the winner will take home DKK 3,700,000 (approx. €496,271).

With both opening days now complete, only 262 players remain to return to the felt tomorrow for Day 2 action. Lithuania player Domantas Klimciauskas sits atop the leaderboard with 203,800 in chips. Also near the top of the leaderboard are Michael Aron (191,000), Ramzi Jelassi (169,200) and Day 1A chip leader Mark Hirleman (163,400). Other notables who survived their Day 1’s include Annette Obrestad (102,300), Johnny Lodden (62,400), JP Kelly (73,600), Florian Langmann (47,700), John Duthie (29,000) and the man who is on top of the EPT Tournament Leader Board, Fernando Brito (99,300).

This event also marked the return of Peter Eastgate to the poker world. The 2008 WSOP champion shocked everyone back in July of 2010 when he announced that he was quitting the game, but earlier this month he announced that he was ready to return to poker. Eastgate made it through the opening day and bagged 73,300 in chips.

Not surviving the opening days were notables Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, William Thorson, James Akenhead, Oscar Kroon and Theo Jorgensen. Last year’s winner, Swedish pro Anton Wigg, was eliminated late on Day 1A by Obrestad.
