The Big Event -- Bounty Shootout Day 1World Champion Jonathan Duhamel, Alex Keating, Pat Walsh, and Shane Schleger Advance to the Final Table |
|
The first flight of play took place in the $10,000 Bounty Shootout tournament at The Big Event at the Bicycle Casino on Thursday in Los Angeles, California. There were 36 players who entered the day but only four advanced to the final table that will take place on Saturday at this made-for-television ESPN event. Those four players were Jonathan Duhamel, Alex Keating, Pat Walsh, and Shane Schleger.
Walsh was the first player to advance on the day. He doubled up multiple times at his table and defeated Mike Baxter heads up to claim the first seat at the final table. Walsh claimed three bounties on the day.
The feature table today showcased two world champions in Duhamel and Chris Moneymaker. The two had tangled just last week in the semi-finals of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship and Moneymaker won that match in Las Vegas. Duhamel got his revenge by beating Moneymaker heads-up at their table of nine to advance to Saturday with four bounties already in his pocket.
Alex Keating topped Shawn Buchanan heads up to advance from their table today. Buchanan did most of the damage along the way, collecting five bounties. Keating scored the bounty when he needed it the most though; advancing when his pocket jacks held on to beat the pocket tens of Buchanan in their final hand. Keating claimed two bounties on the day.
The marathon match during the first flight was located at table 2. After all of the other tables were done for the night a heads-up battle raged on between Schleger and Pat Pezzin. Schleger pulled out the late victory when he turned a flush against Pezzin and sent him home. Pezzin and Schleger collected three bounties each during their lengthy final table.
The second starting flight in the Bounty Shootout will take place tomorrow at the Bicycle Casino and you can read another summary of the action when it concludes here on Card Player.
