Executives at Harrah's Entertainment have kicked up the wow factor at this year's World Series of Poker. Celebrity guest announcers will be
calling the final table action, giving the usually dry and technical approach to televised feature table coverage a twist. The Amazon Room PA system will be turned over to larger-than-life poker personalities, who'll showcase their talents. With acts like "The Mouth and the Sheik," "Philly and Tilly," and "The Kid" calling folds, flops, and rivers, the game of poker will take on a whole new tone. Harrah's Director of Communications Gary Thompson and Tournament Director Robert Daily credit WSOP Payouts Manager Dianna Donofrio for the innovative idea. "She's taken the ball and run with this one," says Daily. "Dianna comes up with creative ways to improve operations all the time. And this one she carried all on her own." Donofrio has been associated with the WSOP for over two decades and witnessed all of the growth, changes, and developments along the way. She pitched the idea to Daily who took it to Thompson. The question wasn't whether it was a great idea, helping to draw fans and provide ESPN with easy access to the best in poker entertainment. The question was whether or not Donofrio, with all of her other responsibilities leading into the massive event, could make this work. Well, decide for yourself.
