Unibet plc today announced its interim report for the first quarter of 2011 with poker revenue suffering a colossal 44 percent decline to £3.98 million from £7.1 million in the first quarter of 2011.
Poker now constitutes just 11 percent of Unibet’s business – Unibet’s Q1 2010 figures included the French market which was about 25 percent of its poker business. The company exited the market in June 2010 – down from 17 percent in the first quarter of 2011.
Full year 2010 figures show poker revenue declined 17 percent in 2010 compared to 2009.
Unibet joins Playtech and Betsson who both recently saw massive falls in poker revenue.
The company did not make any comment on the decline specifically but said, “During the first quarter of 2011, new, and more competitive multi-table tournaments for poker players of all types were released, with a continuing focus towards the casual player. A strong global promotion schedule drove activity with a large, multi-operator EUR 150,000 rake race, and the innovative ‘Be the Pro’ campaign.
“The Unibet Open continues its success as one of Europe’s leading poker tours with the new season kicking off in Malta (293 players) which attracted many Unibet customers from all over Europe and as ever, very strong media coverage. Also for the first time, the Unibet Open made a successful online debut, with five further online events coming throughout the year.
