Macau Poker Cup -- Multiple Big Buy-in Tournaments Hosted in May

There are two Macau Poker Cup events taking place in May at the PokerStars Macau poker room at Casino Grand Lisboa. The room has hosted the MPC, which is the premiere poker tournament series in Asia in Macau since May 2008.

Last weekend, the Macau Poker Cup May Special kicked things off. The weekend featured three, Asia Player of the Year events and 242 players competed for a share of $670,064 HKD in prize money. By the end of the event it was Macau’s Ion Sang Song, 50, who won the main event and took home $115,800 HKD, having outlasted a field of 100 players in the two-day event.

Each MPC features multiple events and the signature tournament at each series is the Red Dragon event, which features an $11,000 HKD buy-in tournament and a $3,000,000 HKD guarantee. Players begin with 15,000 in chips for the three-day tournament. The MPC also carries a wide variety of exciting side tournaments that have each developed their own strong following including a charity event that benefits local charities such as Caritas de Macau and the Macau Child Development Association.

Since 2009, PokerStars Macau has concluded the MPC series with the Macau Poker Cup Championship, which features a $20,000 HKD buy-in main event. The next MPCC takes place from October 7-16, 2011 and the main event will have a $4,500,000 HKD guarantee.

Until then, the second MPC in May is next on the schedule and it runs from May 28 to June 5. The tournament series features an expanded nine-day schedule, with eight official Asia Player of Year events included. The main event, as always, is the Red Dragon event, which boasts a $3,000,000 HKD guarantee.
