The countdown to the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship is over with side events and satellites starting today at Casino Barcelona on the shores of the Mediterranean. Day 1A of the €3,200 + €300 main event gets underway at 15.00 CET on Wednesday, May 25 and Day 1B will follow at the same time on Thursday, May 26. The final table takes place at 15.00 CET on Sunday, May 29 and will be live streamed with hole cards and commentary on the Party Poker blog.
Last year’s WPT Spanish Championship attracted a record 326 players and created a total prize pool worth €1,043,200. Ali Tekintamgac won the tournament and the top prize of $343,307, although allegations circulated about him cheating. The top 36 players walked away with prize money. Notable cashes included Per Linde (28th place), Casey Kastle (22nd place), and Steven Van Zadelhoff (13th place). You can see a full list of the final-table results below.
The WPT Spanish Championship is the first stop of Season X of the WPT and the first international tournament the tour has hosted since WPT Bratislava in April. In addition to the tournament title the winner will take home a $25,500 entry into the 2012 WPT World Championship.
