The biggest event of the poker year is upon us once again. Cards will get into the air in the $10,000 no-limit hold’em world championship on Thursday, July 7 at the 2011 World Series of Poker at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The main event will welcome thousands of players to the Amazon Room and the Pavilion Ballroom for four starting days from July 7-10. The tournament marks the culmination of the summer and the summer section of the World Series will end when the November Nine are set on July 19.

Last year’s main event saw Jonathan Duhamel win the world championship after a heads-up final against John Racener. For his efforts to climb to the top of a field of 7,319 players (The second largest live poker tournament of all time) Duhamel collected the world title, a gold bracelet, and $8,944,138. Last year’s tournament attracted the biggest stars in poker as well as many actors, athletes, and music stars. The main event was also an international affair that featured players from 117 countries.
Poker’s mainstream event is sure to attract many of those stars once again tomorrow as well as many weekend warriors and amateurs that won their way into the event via satellites. They will all be hoping to become the next Chris Moneymaker in this tournament or perhaps this will be the year when an established professional reclaims the crown. You can track the stories of all the inexperienced hopefuls and seasoned pros starting tomorrow at noon.
Levels will be 120 minutes long and there will be a 20-minute break after each level. Players will begin with 30,000 in chips and the blinds will start at 50-100. Dinner breaks will be 90 minutes in length and they will take place at the end of level 3 each day. This will be roughly at 6:40 p.m. Play should end each night at 12:30 a.m. for days that will last five levels.
