On Monday, poker pro Steve O’Dwyer won the first Epic Poker Pro/Am at the Palms Casino Resort, taking home $23,180 and a seat to the $20,000 main event on Tuesday.
The $1,500 buy-in Pro/Am featured a televised final table by the Heartland Poker Tour. Out of 190 starters on Friday and Saturday, the final six players (in addition to the 9th, 8th, and 7th place finishers on Sunday night) won $20,000 seats into Epic’s main event Tuesday. At the final table on Monday, the six remaining played for cash.
O’Dwyer, who is fresh of a win in a $5,000 no-limit hold’em event at the Bellagio Cup last month for $260,000, beat out a tough final table of experienced players.
Here are the results:
6. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $2,780): Micah Raskin
5. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $3,570): Jeremiah DeGreef
4. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $5,160): Clifford Waite
3. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $7,540): Andy Bloch
2. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $11,900): Brandon Meyers
1. ($20,000 Main Event seat plus $23,180): Steve D’Dwyer
Note: All of the final table players will join the members of Epic Poker League for the $20,000 main event. The aforementioned competitors and the final three finishers on Sunday won their $20,000 buy-in and (with the exception of Bloch, who is already a league member), the right to play. Other than the nine Pro/Am winners, only holders of Epic Poker’s 2-, 3-, and 5-year cards are eligible to play.
