The World Poker Tour regional $1,500 event, held at Jacksonville’s Orange Park Poker Room, August 13-16, was won by Tampa’s Chris Conrad. Conrad outlasted 461 players and took home the WPT trophy and $143,145 in Northeast Florida’s largest ever poker tournament.
Conrad took the win when his flopped set of 9’s held up against Ray Leone’s flopped pair of aces. Leone, of Jacksonville, won $90,245 of the tournament’s $622,350 prize pool. The WPT Regional was the centerpiece of Jacksonville’s 11-event Summer Poker Series. There was a total prize pool of more than $1 million and nearly 2,000 players from across the country participated.
The 461 player starting-field in the main event was a mix of pro, semi-pro, and amateur players, more than half of whom satellited in. 23 players returned on day 3 to play for the remaining prize pool, and the ultimate prize of $143,145. The final two tables played in the exclusive Orange Park High Limit Room. It took more than two hours to get down to the final table of 10. Final table play started at 3:30 p.m. and ended at 10:20 p.m.
Jacksonville’s next WPT tournament is a $3,500 buy-in main event scheduled for Nov. 19–22. More info at JaxPokerRoom.com.
