Lawmakers in the state of Massachusetts filed a gaming bill on Tuesday that would allow three casinos and a slot parlor, amidst burgeoning discussions of legalizing gambling, according to the Boston Herald.
Per the measures in the bill, casino developers would be required to make a capital investment of at least $500 million and pay a licensing fee of at least $85 million. A slot license would require $125 million and $25 million, respectively.
“We think it’s a home run for the citizens and taxpayers,” said State Rep. Joseph Wagner (D-Chicopee), chairman of the legislative committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies. “The fact that the committee is releasing a bill is an indication that there is support from the governor, the Senate president and the speaker.”
A similar bill died last year because Gov. Deval Patrick opposed the measure. Wagner said the House is looking to pass the bill sometime in September.
