Niall Smyth won the 2011 Irish Open earlier this yearCurrent Irish Open champion Niall Smyth has taken down the Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival for a nice payday of €70,000.

Freerolling, due to his Sole Survivor sponsorship with PaddyPowerPoker.com, Smyth backed up his Irish Open win when he beat 568 players in the €500 buy-in event in Killarney.

Eamon Doran was the young poker champ’s final opponent and Smyth bested him when his JHeart Suit 10Heart Suit hit a jack on the flop while Doran’s 7Heart Suit 5Heart Suit made a pair of fives. The two moved all in and the 6Diamond Suit turn and 3Spade Suit river ensured Smyth was once again the last player standing.

After his win Smyth said, "It’s epic. Just brilliant to win another big event… Being the Paddy Power Sole Survivor means I’m freerolling these events and it just couldn’t be any better… It means I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. It just feels great.”

This April, Smyth collected €550,000 for topping a 615-strong field at the Burlington Hotel at one of the poker world’s premier events, the Irish Open. Not only that, he also won a €100,000 sponsorship package for being the final PaddyPowerPoker.com qualifier standing.

The next event Smyth plays is the €1,100 buy-in Irish Winter Festival at the end of this month. Players who qualify for the Festival at PaddyPowerPoker.com will also be eligible for a €20,000 Sole Survivor promotion. There are 20 packages for this event worth €1,800 each on offer next Sunday, Oct. 9 in a €200 + €15 no-limit hold’em mega satellite at PaddyPowerPoker.com.
