The latest edition of Card Player Magazine is now available online and features Andy Frankenberger, the reigning World Poker Tour Player of the Year.
The 38-year-old former Wall Street equity derivatives trader had one of poker’s best rookie years, winning not only a WPT event, but also a World Series of Poker bracelet and a total of nearly $2 million in earnings.
Despite his early success, Frankenberger realizes that it takes a lot of hard work to stay on top. “My strength as a trader was that I never thought I was smarter than the market,” he explained. “If I had a view or a trade that was going against me, I had to decide whether to put more in the trade or get out. This discipline and self-restraint comes into play in both fields. If you trade with ego, you are going to lose money, and if you play poker with ego, you are going to lose money. After I won WPT Legends, I thought the next time that I showed up to play, I would raise and everyone would fold. But it doesn’t work like that.”
Other highlights from this issue include interviews with Andrew Brokos, Sam Barnhart, Vanessa Rousso, Liv Boeree and Maria Ho, as well as columns from respected poker minds like Ed Miller, Matthew Hilger, Matt Matros, Dusty Schmidt, Steve Zolotow and Roy Cooke.
