Tristan Wade became the latest player to receive a World Series of Poker Europe bracelet after he took down the €3,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em shootout. Out of four events, Wade is the second American to take a title in Cannes, following Steve Billirakis’ win in event no. 3.

Wade, who is well-known more so for his online success and instructing, now adds €182,048 to his winnings for besting a field of 258 players from more than 24 nations.

The final table of this event reflected the standard of the fields so far within this year’s Series; Wade had to battle against fierce opposition which included James Dempsey, Max Silver, Steve O’Dwyer, and Bertrand Grospellier. His final opponent was 27-year-old Canadian Michael Watson.

To be able to better compete with Watson, Wade won a pivotal hand fourhanded when his pocket kings beat Max Silver’s pocket fours. This hand eliminated Silver and gave Wade the much-needed chips to take on Watson and Richard Toth. Toth was next to go, ensuring the final battle would be Canada versus America.

As the young man from Florida gathered steam heads up, he pushed himself into the lead and appeared almost unstoppable up until the final hand. Watson raised to 60,000 from the button, Wade three-bet to 144,000 from the big blind, and Watson made his all-in move. Wade insta-called and the two flipped over their cards. Watson showed AHeart Suit 5Heart Suit and Wade flipped over JHeart Suit JSpade Suit. The board ran QSpade Suit QDiamond Suit 4Heart Suit 10Club Suit 2Heart Suit to ensure another American victory.

Here are the results and payouts:

1. Tristan Wade – €182,048 (900 Card Player POY points)
2. Michael Watson – €112,526 (750 POY points)
3. Richard Toth – €84,016 (600 POY points)
4. Max Silver – €63,151 (450 POY points)
5. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier – €47,763 (375 POY points)
6. Steve O’Dwyer – €36,357 (300 POY points)
7. Emil Patel – €27,842 (225 POY points)
8. Taylor Paur – €21,459 (150 POY points)
9. James Dempsey – €16,637 (75 POY points)
10. John Armbrust – €12,981

Wade receives 900 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win, bringing him up to 22nd place on the leader board with a total of 3,036. ElkY moves on up a few places with a total of 3,250 thanks to the addition of 375 points, while O’Dwyer is highest on the leader board out of all the finalists with 3,442 points for 16th place, after the addition of 300 points for his sixth-place finish.

This was the first time a no-limit hold’em shootout event took place as part of the WSOP Europe. When the festival was held in London it took until the third year to crown its first native champion, JP Kelly. With the move to France, this appears to be a recurring theme as so far this Series there have been no French champions, not even close. Grospellier did finish fifth in the shootout but after four bracelets going home to France from Las Vegas this summer, their results have been disappointing so far.
