American Poker Pro Lets Off Steam On Twitter

Every poker player rants. Whether it’s quiet self-berating for a way they played a hand or an angry outburst to a friend or fellow player, it is part and parcel of the poker world. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter however have made for deadly temptation to publicly vent, but once the steam has cleared and rational thinking returns, it is often too late to take back what is said.

One rant of late came from a usually calm and cool Kevin MacPhee, who was very recently looking to be the first double EPT title holder upon entering the final table in San Remo. However it wasn’t to be for the young, popular American as he found himself searching for a hand to make his all-in move.

After being patient and having waited long enough he moved his final 535,000 in to the middle and Barny Boatman made the call from the big blind. MacPhee flipped over 6Club Suit 5Heart Suit while Boatman revealed QSpade Suit 7Spade Suit. The board fell KDiamond Suit 3Club Suit 3Heart Suit 2Club Suit JHeart Suit and Boatman cut MacPhee’s dreams short, sending him out in eighth place with €63,694 for his efforts. Boatman eventually left in fourth for €225,000.

Following his bust out, the usually upbeat MacPhee turned to Twitter saying, “I fold 30 hands straight down to 530k then shove 9 bbs in the sb and @barnyboatman calls off with Q7s?!? Is this guy f***ing retarded?”

He then wrote, “Don’t really care what people think about my Barney Boatman statement. I think its a retarded call. I spoke my mind. That is all.” And added “Andrey Pateychuk is f***ing retarded too… putting in 12 million on the flop with 76 on 942 #wpchamp #runnerrunnerftw”

He soon followed this up with, “Obviously I was joking about Pateychuk… just making a bad joke about a funny hand. He was a difficult opponent and a deserving champ!”

The jokes, commiserations and congratulations started pouring in then. Dominik Nitsche wrote, “Ordering this lobster pasta was a good call @barnyboatman said Not as good urs with q7…”

While Matt Savage helped to stir up the hornet’s nest with, “Congrats @barnyboatman, maybe 2011 is your year just like 2002! Keep making those retarded calls!!”

Boatman himself was soon in on the fray, “Hi @KevinMacPhee You gave me a strong tell you were weak, though i may have called anyway. Retarded? If you say so. But no hard feelings eh?”

The following day, MacPhee sounded more like his usual self and the two sorted it out like pros. MacPhee wrote, "Sorry for my outburst earlier… was steaming super hard :( Apologies to @BarnyBoatman too… sorry mate!

Boatman then replied, making for a happy ending with, “No worries @KevinMacPhee You are a great player and ran super bad at the end. I know how that feels (the run bad part.) Let’s have a beer.”
