Matt Giannetti had a really strong performance at the 2011 World Series of Poker main event final table, winning most of his showdowns and rarely giving away easy chips to his opponents, but luck just wasn’t on his side.
Both Giannetti and Ben Lamb began to falter to their European counterparts during four-handed play, so it almost seemed inevitable that they would go to war against each other.
The deciding hand occured when Giannetti opened for a raise and was met with an all-in shove by Lamb, holding A 7. Giannetti immediately called with pocket jacks, but a board of K 9 5 4 9 meant that he was left with just over three big blinds.
After a small double up, Giannetti was unfortunate to run right into Lamb’s pocket kings with his A 3. The board brought the remaining two kings and the 26-year-old pros tournament run officially came to an end.
Giannetti did pick up $3,012,700 for his finish, bringing his career earnings to nearly $4 million.
