The PaddyPowerPoker.com Student Masters is set to return in 2012 with a couple of changes.
As the €100 + €10 buy-in, student-only event sold out last year, next year will see it held at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin to accommodate all hopefuls. Action kicks off on Mar. 10, 2012, but once there are just nine players left standing, play will be paused until the eve of the Irish Open, Apr. 5, when a champion will be crowned.
The event features an estimated €20,000 in prize money, plus the winner gets a seat worth €3,500 into the Irish Open 2012.
To get there, students can qualify via PaddyPowerPoker’s Student Masters 2012 Online Freerolls which take place on the first Sunday of every month from Dec. 4 to March and feature a free Masters seat per event; satellites for the event are currently up and running with a €5 re-buy on Monday nights and a €10 freezeout every Wednesday; or indeed players can buy in directly through the PaddyPowerPoker.com software.
Last year’s winner Jamie Flynn took home €3,000 from a €12,000 prize pool and received an Irish Open main event seat for topping a field of 127.
Flynn said, “When I heard that paddypowerpoker.com was awarding the winner of the Student Masters a seat into the Irish Open, this tournament became a must-play for me. It was always a dream of mine to play in the Irish Open and I can tell you now it certainly did not disappoint.
“Walking into the venue had to be the highlight; as you enter the hotel lobby, the Dublin Gospel Choir are passionately singing in the corner and there are swarms of poker players all hoping that this is going to be their year. The atmosphere was electric and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand; at that moment in time, there is nowhere else in the world I’d have rather been.”
