Cutting edge mobile poker operator Switchpoker.com today became the world’s first poker site to offer players the chance to play poker using controversial virtual currency Bitcoin.

The company, which was also the world’s first to develop real money poker for Apple mobile devices, now accepts deposits and can make payments using Bitcoin which operates without governmental control and can be exchanged person-to-person anonymously and without fees.

Switchpoker developer Conor McCarthy, said, “The advantage of the Bitcoin currency is that it has the ability to remove all payment processing related barriers of entry for poker and gambling sites around the world. It would allow any person to play for real money completely anonymously.

“Players will be able to now send us funds directly without a 3rd party being privy to the transactions, and we will be able to send funds directly back to the user. It also means that people without a Skrill or Neteller account will be able to play. Players can get Bitcoins on sites such as Bitcoin247.com.”

Bitcoin has caused a considerable stir since its launch with organizations such as the CIA and Chinese government paying close attention to its development.

Switchpoker.com was launched in October 2010 and is the first web-based online poker solution for Apple mobile devices. it is currently not available to U.S. players.
