A new group has formed with the aim to getting poker legalised in Northern Ireland.

The Legalise Poker in Northern Ireland campaign hopes to overturn gaming laws which currently outlaw the game in a live environment.

Committee member Tommy McKinney, said, “We are trying to get the dated laws in Northern Ireland changed to allow poker to be played legally. We have undertaken a number of activities, facebook campaign, petition, meeting the Department of Social Development, reaching out to our local elected representatives.”

Representatives from Legalise Poker NI have been invited to brief the Committee for Social Development on the Department for Social Development’s review of gambling law at the Committee meeting in January 2012.

Poker fans can reach out and offer their support at the group’s Facebook page and by signing the online petition.
